To tell the truth, I'm the lucky guy. In our line of work, we get lots of opportunities to do some pretty great things for some of the best customers anywhere. Some guys know exactly what they want right down to the last detail - it's no less rewarding to build to "spec" and we always welcome these projects, and have a great appreciation in the confidence those customers place in us.

This isn't the first job of its kind I've done, and it's far from the last but as I sat down to write it up and share some pictures it dawned on me that this is truly my favorite kind of challenge. The owner of this 10mm had a few guidelines in mind, and made a pretty concise list of his requirements. As we were talking on the phone prior to starting the work, one statement resonated long after we hung up. "Just use your judgement on the details - do it like you'd do your own".

To say I'm honored and humbled a bit by his absolute trust in my sometimes questionable judgement, my aging eyes, and crippled up old hands (that's what Jason keeps telling me anyways) would be an understatement. So I pulled out all the stops, found a rabbit or two in my hat, and had one heck of a good time putting this one together.

Thanks for a couple of really enjoyable weeks, Steve. I hope you like the pistol!

The ball cuts and bottom bevels were part of the original specs...

I got a little creative with the install on one of Stan's Magwell suites - moved back a bit and fit with two sets of grips - one in desert ironwood and a Sunday set in high grade English Walnut

We wanted a Bomar, and they're a bit scarce these days - I had one for a Smith and Wesson 41, but the base was all wrong for a 1911 slide. I had to get a little creative on the install....

I gotta say Ted... sure that Bo-Mar install was alot more work than a simple dovetail and pocket cut, but man it sure does look good. Well worth the extra effort.

Just got home from work and realized neither Jason nor Ted had told me this gun was done. However, I was in the shop last week before a trip to Orlando, FL and saw the final touches being finalized. I don't want to sound trivial or condescending in any way but I wonder from time to time if some folks realize what goes into a pistol like this. Ted makes it look easy and believe me it is not. But, like all of the LTW smiths the attention to detail is what sets us apart. Ted is at a point in his career where the "Final Cut" is attainable before he starts the gun. The true mastery is being able to put all the pieces together.

Lots of smiths out there are building very functional well detailed pistols.. The hardcore tactical pistol has been very popular for some time. But a vast majority of us aren't eating MRE's tonight and probably never will. But, it seems the discerning customer always comes back to a finely detailed 1911 they can call their own. I chase bad guys every single day and carry a stainless Colt Commander for the most part. It is not as detailed as this gun but it goes bang every time. The reason most of the builders don't carry a gun like this is because we are in the business of selling what is possible. Ted, I wished you would have taught College Trigonometry I might have made a better vocational decision.

Having the opportunity to work with the LTW smiths and look at the smile of the people who benefit from what we are able to do from time to time is worth it a thousand times over. Working with Ted and Jason and constantly trying to raise the bar from one build to the next brings the same satisfaction.

If you look back at every smith in LTW...none of us were born out of some hype or mystical scenario. We gained our reputation through satisfied customers, the respect of other smiths, hard work, and making sure we do the best job possible every single time...without exception...pistols like this are the result.

Your honor, the state rests....

Exceptional results are the creation of exceptional people.

Outstanding pistol. One lucky owner. My congrats.

That is fantastic, but I don't think you needed me to say that.

Very well executed and finished piece. The owner of that blaster is going to have a hard time wiping the grin off his face for a long, long time.

Once again you've raised the baseline by which all custom pistols will be judged. Great job, Ted.

I second what everyone has said. I love 10mm 1911s, and that is a beauty.

I am especially enamored of the slide stop. Kind of an Heirloom signature look at this point.
