To tell the truth, I'm the lucky guy. In our line of work, we get lots of opportunities to do some pretty great things for some of the best customers anywhere. Some guys know exactly what they want right down to the last detail - it's no less rewarding to build to "spec" and we always welcome these projects, and have a great appreciation in the confidence those customers place in us.
This isn't the first job of its kind I've done, and it's far from the last but as I sat down to write it up and share some pictures it dawned on me that this is truly my favorite kind of challenge. The owner of this 10mm had a few guidelines in mind, and made a pretty concise list of his requirements. As we were talking on the phone prior to starting the work, one statement resonated long after we hung up. "Just use your judgement on the details - do it like you'd do your own".
To say I'm honored and humbled a bit by his absolute trust in my sometimes questionable judgement, my aging eyes, and crippled up old hands (that's what Jason keeps telling me anyways) would be an understatement. So I pulled out all the stops, found a rabbit or two in my hat, and had one heck of a good time putting this one together.
Thanks for a couple of really enjoyable weeks, Steve. I hope you like the pistol!
The ball cuts and bottom bevels were part of the original specs...
I got a little creative with the install on one of Stan's Magwell suites - moved back a bit and fit with two sets of grips - one in desert ironwood and a Sunday set in high grade English Walnut
We wanted a Bomar, and they're a bit scarce these days - I had one for a Smith and Wesson 41, but the base was all wrong for a 1911 slide. I had to get a little creative on the install....
