Got out a couple of my old IPSC .38 supers that were stashed way back in the safe and streched their legs a little and thought I would take a few pics.
The Govt. model was built around 1986-87 and the Super Elite was finished in 1989.
The Govt. has a Clark comp with ramped match bull barrel, 30 lpi front/rear checkering, added front serrations and serrate rear of slide, flattened and checkered front of trigger guard, A.O. Swenson ambies with the mud flaps..... don't see many of those lately  , I don't recall who's wide mouth mag well I used (did Ed Brown make a weld on back then?) and Bomar sights. I'm not sure who I used for a grip safty..... 20+ years is to far back to remember  Blue upper and hard chrome lower by Jim Kelly of Metaloy in Rogers Ark.

The Super Elite was a blue/stnls gun based on the Gold Cup platform with a limited run of around 500...... wish I had one of those NIB today. Done up with a custom fab two chamber comp to match the raised rib of the Gold Cup style slide, Clark ramped bull barrel, removed the Elision sights filled in the slide and cut in a Bomar sight and had the top relined 40lpi. along with front serrations and serrate rear of slide, checkered front of trigger guard with 40lpi, 20 lpi front/back strap, I think I used a Ed Brown thumb safety, wide weld on mag well.
Both were fitted with all new internals and firing system.
Almost forgot..... Ernie Hill Speed Leather :D

Well time for a few pics

Like the saying goes, "Maybe out of fashion, but never out of style."

Very nice, especially the Hill speed rig! :)

I really enjoy seeing Old School pistols. Every one of them is a little different. They seem to have more character than some of the current pistols floating around. Thanks for sharing.

Nice stuff, easy to peg as far as time period, and that is meant in the nicest way. Thanks for the memories..... .38 Super was very, very good to me there for a while!

These pistols were super-fly when I first got into handgunning, and dipped my toe into IPSC! Two port .38 super was the gun to beat and envy...guys running .45's were switching away for the "capacity" (how that term has changed) and for the flatter shooting qualities. Then came the cz/tz/p9 phase then Paras, then the "CMC" framed guns....
Great pics.

I love old IPSC/USPSA guns. They are so humble to the guns now used. Love it, wish I owned them.

I still have my single-stack .38 Super Open gun in the safe. One of these days I'll have to re-build it into something more modern.

Man, it was state-of-the-art when I built it, and then the P9's hit.

I think that the arms race was one of the things that drove me away from IPSC. Soon as you received that long awaited race gun it was out dated :? Then the guy in your club you were planing thaking on got one with more bells and whistles.

I'm not sure but I think that is what Ned Christiansen was talking about......
