Yesterday I received my "steel" OACP back from John Harrison. To say that I am pleased may be a bit of an understatement.

Years ago I acquired a LW OACP when they first hit the market and a number of years later acquired a Steel OACP from that same time period. My intent was to have them set up as nearly identical as possible. I would carry the LW OACP and shoot it infrequently and shoot the Steel OACP for practice an occasional match etc..

About a decade after getting the steel OACP I decided to go forward with the project and sent the LW OACP to John Harrison. Here is the URL to my post about this pistol:

"http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/vie ... f=6&t=6776"

A few months back I sent my "steel" OACP to John and with the exception a few changes it is the twin of my LW OACP.

The major changes were the addition of a "match" grade barrel, a horizontal tritium bar in the rear site and opening up the rear sight notch for my old eyes.

I can hardly wait to get this to the range. We have a new IDPA club starting locally and I intend to shoot this pistol in these matches.

The pictures are ones that John sent me and the build list is below.

Thanks for the most kind comments and I'm glad to know that you are enjoying your new Officers ACP! Here are a few different shots and in bigger size.

John

Thanks for the much better pictures...

As you know I took this little blaster to the range and it ran perfectly.

The trigger on this one "very" nice!

I can hardly wait to start shooting it in the local IDPA matches..

The bad part about having this project done is that every time I walk by my safe I hear the steel Commander saying "it's my turn to go see John"... :D

Great looking shooter. The stocks really stand out, beautiful. Hard to notice they are thin stocks.
Maybe now John can get working on my Colt Officer.
That's a pistol you will have forever.

Steve

I have not measured John's thin stocks, but I am very impressed with them. They fit my hand so well that want to get three or four more sets made to replace my Chip McCormick "thin" stocks on my other 1911 pistols.

The thin stocks combined with the high cut front strap and the rounded heel on the mainspring housing combine for a very solid and comfortable feel in the hand.

Amended 04/07

I measured the thin stock panels:

John's thin stock panels and it was about .190".
The Chip McCormick was about .175"

I can feel the difference in the two stock panels and I like John's much more.. They fit my hand better and I will be getting more 1911 pistols outfitted with John's thin stocks.

G.P.Trent,

I got Spegel Presentation and Ivory grips for mine. But I might have to have a set of John's.
The way the grips follow the round butt and cover the MSH pin, the Round butt is not so dominant.

The way John makes these is such that it reminds me of a set of well fitted grips for a Colt SA pistol.. The grips and pistol just blend together.

These are desert Ironwood and I will probably have my next set made from the same wood.

The way I make these grips, the shaping and sanding is done with the wood mounted on the frame. This dictates that the pistol be refinished after making the grips.

John

This information make it a bit easier to select which of my pistols will be making the trip back to see you. :)
