Anyone have any custom, full length dust cover 1911's -- like the old Springfield Armory Operators? Did you keep the full length, or chop it like current light rail guns? Love to see some pix!

Wouldn't call it a custom by the standards we're used to here, but I have one of the old operators that received some minor internal tuning from the Springfield Custom Shop along with a refinish in Black-T. I kept the full length dust cover.

Cool...I may end up just keeping it full length instead of cutting it down a bit.

I have one as well. I plan on sending it to Precision Heirloom to have it customized. But I am torn between keeping the full rail or cutting it down.

Had the exact same pistol and sold it on whim while in search of something else. Still kicking myself!

Nice. One of my favorite things about the Mil Spec Operators is the lack of front serrations. A functional and aesthetic preference for me. Mine is still a very rough work in progress. I picked up a 10-8 Operator with the rail/dust cover cut back to traditional length, so I'm hesitant to lop off this one. I do like feel of a little extra weight up front, but it could stand to lose a few. Maybe a compromise similar to the cuts on a 4"?

Any of you gunsmiths do something special with yours? John Harrison did one with only about an inch taken off that looks cool (first two pix):

That's exactly what I would like to do, well maybe a little bit less. Something between a Commander and GI angled ball cut.

I'd like to say, "Hi" to everyone. This is my first post, I've lurked on the forum for about a month now. This is a picture of my full length dust cover gun. It's a STI 1911 Master Frame and STI Unique Slide finished in Hard Chrome and IonBond.

Welcome Stiguy, Nice looking Blaster. Is this a build of your own? If not who did the work. R.K.
