Caspian/Foster Bobtail commander .45.

...except finish, I love two tone guns so, beadblast the stainless frame and Ionbond or blue the steel slide.

Here are the details (warts and all):

Foster Frame
Caspian Slide
C&S ignition system
Ed Brown Bobtail MSH
Ed Brown match 3 hole trigger
Kings extended Thumb safety
Ed Brown Speed bump Beavertail
STI Titanium Hammer strut
Schuemann Bull barrel
Wilson FLGR
10-8 mag release
Wolff Springs
Heine slant-pro rear sight (melted)
Wilson Slide release (started life as an extended slide release)

VZ Gator back grips (probably switching to a set of Lazza 4x4's)

Everything was hand fitted by me, using files, sand paper, stones and patience. I do not own a mill so all milling work was either done by Caspian (Thanks Gary!!!!!) or a local machine shop (HP cuts).

On the frame, undercut the trigger guard and serrated the front of the guard at 30LPI to match the back of the slide. Cut and blended the Bobtail MSH and the beavertail. Chamfered the slide stop hole and flat cut the pin. As mentioned above the Slide stop was originally a Wilson extended, but, after some thought I didn't particularly like it, but I did like the serrated pad, so.... out came the files and a dremel. Lastly, beveled the magwell.

On the slide, HP cuts up front (I like the way it looks.) serrated the back at 30LPI including the Wilson Bulletproof extractor. Installed and melted Heine sights (single tritium dot front sight) and hard fit a Schuemann Ultra Match bull barrel (unramped).

Looks good, I wish that I had the time to put mine together. I've had all the parts for years, but with 2 tours to Iraq and now going through physician assistant school for the Army I haven't had any time and probably won't have any anytime soon. I've been looking for a good gunsmith to put it together for me but all of them that I find aren't accepting work right now so I guess it will have to wait a couple more years until I finish school unless somebody can recommend a good smith that is accepting work right now. It's amazing how a simple project that started with purchasing a frame 10 years ago is turning into a 12 year project.

I hear ya on the time issue. This has been a 2 year project. Between two tours to Iraq and standing up, equiping and training a new Riverine force, time was catch as catch can.

It was a very interesting project and I learned alot.
