This is not a "full house" gun so to speak, but it is a pretty good example of our average upgrade work and shows our hardtail conversion in its most current configuration.

A customer contacted me about working over a Dan Wesson CBOB. He told me to do whatever I would do if it were my own carry gun. That of course is a dangerous thing to say to a gunsmith; luckily for him the Dan Wesson is already an impressively fitted piece of equipment for the price.

The Dan Wessons already come with an excellent slide to frame fit and a barrel/bushing fit that is far beyond the usual factory fit in the price range.

The only things he specified were the hardtail, flush cut barrel, and that the barrel/bushing/plug be left stainless color. We discussed the other options and here is what came out.

I went ahead and changed the sights to my preferred carry set up of an all black rear and front night sight with white ring. I also serrated the rear of the slide to match and blend with the rear sight.
I changed the MIM slide stop for a EGW barstock unit, and changed the trigger for a solid Harrison Design unit that removes more pretravel, we also fitted it to remove a lot of the vertical slop. I also did some minor action work on the existing parts.
I fitted a different Ed Brown bobtail housing with 25lpi checkering for an improved grip and beveled out the magwell to max dimensions for smooth reloads.
I cleaned up the vertical borders on the frontstrap checkering and did a little polishing/dehorning where needed.
Finally the whole thing was treated in our Superblack (salt bath nitride) finish for excellent durability (particularly of the slide-to-frame fit) and a little less "bling"...

Here are the important things- Pics...

Very clean work all-around, Roy. The hardtail has me mesmerized, and the bobtail looks great! Well done!

Can you do the hard tail on an aluminum frame?

It can not be done on aluminum frames.
To do the hardtail we cut the grip safety in half and weld the upper portion directly to the frame; unfortunately I don't think we can weld the steel beavertail to an aluminum frame yet :)
