Ray and I had chatted some time back about doing up his 1981 Small letter Series '70 Colt. His time in Iraq gave me a window to get the gun done, and it was waiting for him when he got back. He did get some time to shoot it before Uncle shipped him back, this time to Afghanistan. Ray, thanks for your service to our country and to all of us. The pics were taken with my stoneage 1.3 Mp digital cam, so until I upgrade to a better one, they'll have to do I'm afraid.

Here's what was decided upon: The frame and mainspring housing were checkered at 25 LPI, with a Hi-cut on the frontstrap; The stock barrel was crowned and fited with an EGW bushing; The slide was flattened and serrated, a Wilson slide stop, CMC beavertail and Brown extended safety were fitted and a set of VZ slim grips were applied. The port was of course lowered and flared to eliminate dinged brass and make sure the empties get out. The reliability package in concert with a WIlson extractor makes sure that the gun functions as it should with a wide variety of ammunition. The 10-8 sights he requested were fitted with tritium inserts, and a commander style hammer was fitted with a Harrison trigger. Add in a bevelled mag well and Terry Wolfords hardchrome for the finishing touch and we're done.

Well to that lucky Jarhead I say Semper Fi, thanks for bein' there, and good job on the spec sheet. And nice execution of said sheet, Don.

Ran into one today (former Marine, maybe late 50's) and when I thanked him for his service he said, "If I could go in again and go back again I would." I said, "You all say that!"

I could see he meant it and that he was frustrated that Father Time would not allow it.

God bless all of them, past, present, and future.

That sweet build definitely has 'Marine friendly' stamped all over it.

Thank you for your service to our country, Ray. Stay safe.

Well, I'm Army, over half way between 50 and 60, and still serving. The trick is to be too stooopid to know when to quit. I fully understand the frustration. I'm truely fortunate to still be serving. And I have lots of Marine buddies. :D I and any one of them would be extremely pleased to carry this piece. Beautiful work, Don!

I'm sure the thoughts of this pistol filled Ray's jar head many times while in Iraq. Something to look forward to and a much needed distraction. Adda boy...
