I have not been a big fan of the Gold Cup, probably mentioned that. Each of the last three I've worked on, I've said, "that's it, that's the last one". This time I mean it.... but it turned out pretty OK. A "not quite total" custom but as happens here sometimes, after a certain point, you can't let certain other things go undone.

Comments anyone on the sideways "X" stamp on the TG? Thought that was kinda strange.

Ned, that’s not an X. You have to turn the gun side..wa..it a minute, it’s still an X.

I’d say it turned out more than OK! The trigger is really a neat piece of art, and I’ll always be in awe of this slide top treatment. I have to ask, what’s the extra bit of machining above the left side safety paddle?

Not sure what you're referring to Mark....? On the safety itself? There is a rough spot from casting there that I did not really go after-- I was in a mode of wanting to wrap this up without getting into more days of micro-perfection as this was not a big-budget project. That's a tough one for me-- to stop working on it-- because no matter what, there is always more that could be done:-)

I changed out some things I shouldn't have had to, but I did, because on stainless guns, some mfgrs, to include Colt, use "not stainless" parts that are plated. If you modify, deburr, or tune those parts, you are through the plating. The mag catch had to be replaced for this reason. The original extractor is now the "spare" but it was not stainless so after texturing and blasting I had to give it a shot of clear Baking Laquer and bake it.

Sometimes I will let a Colt go with factory ignition parts because they tend to be good, but this being a Gold Cup, of course had the Sear Depressor gizmo in it, which had to go.

The way Colt sometimes does an undercut at the frontstrap / trigger guard union has to be "worked around" to a slight degree but as a factory-done job it is pretty good and I reckon we should be glad they are recognizing the utility of it.

Definitely a nice rework. Narrowing the trigger was a task in itself. Thanks for sharing

WRT the trigger, I have proposed this to George at EGW. I said I think these will sell-- maybe not tons of them but they will sell. Many GC's out there need this for safety reasons (far as I'm concerned). On the custom side it's bit of work to do. On the manufacturing side it ought to be pretty dang easy-- when you're making GC triggers anyway-- put the extra cuts on a few to have in stock. I told him all I want out of the deal is a little credit for the solution.

Ned are you cutting the trigger down to standard width or leaving it a bit wider than standard GI? Seems there's lots of room for playing with that.

Standard width. Since "wide " is the problem I figured going to standard width was the best thing. I did think about tapering the transition instead of stepping it but that's a whole 'nother thing and I think the result here is better looking and more practical.

Yeah... I’d definitely take that Gold Cup. Beautiful work

Outstanding. The trigger treatment is very slick!

Thanks, I like it too, where I never thought there could be a GC I would want for myself. Being stainless helps, I dig stainless for a carry gun. This was originally done with economy in mind, somewhat. The owner wants a few upgrades which I'll be working in, in "moonlight" mode.
