I recently saw a picture of a Colt Combat commander done by Bob Chow some years ago and reallized how slick the style really looked. I had a 1973 Colt Combat Commander that was in decent, though not excellent shape and figured, why not build a tribute gun.
Here's a breakdown:
Slide, frame and barrel all still in excellent condition.
Re-profiled and serrated the Colt slide stop, textured the top.
beveled the slide stop hole, shortened and radiused the pin.
Inlaid S&W K sight forward on the slide.
Cast a red resin insert into the front sight
Serrated the back of the slide at 40 lpi
Fit Bar-stock extractor, serrated to match the slide
French boarder and aggressive carry bevel
Installed reverse plug and FLGR
Installed Wilson Bullet proof beavertail safety, reprofiled to shorter length and stippled the raised speed bump
Fit Cylinder and Slide match sear and disconnector - tuned the stock leaf spring to a solid 4 lbs trigger pull. (The hammer, I think, is also C&S but it came from my parts locker, already had the STI Ti hammer strut)
Installed Greider Medium solid trigger.
Fit and blended barstock mainspring housing, stippled and rounded the butt.
Undercut trigger guard, checkered front strap at 30 lpi
Serrated front of trigger guard at 30 lpi.
Beveled magwell.
The original plunger tube was dented severely, replaced it with a Harrison design barstock.
Gave it a bead blast finish then polished the slide flats to 400 grit. Finish is slow rust blueing, my first, turned out dark blue-black.
Pictures to follow.
