Don Williams and I just completed this two-tone Springfield Gov’t Model. It’s available for sale with the proceeds going to help fund LTW’s operating expenses. Don built the lower end and I did the work to the upper.
Starting with a stainless Springfield receiver, Don checkered both the front strap and an Ed Brown MSH to 25 lpi. He fitted one of Wilson’s new barstock Carry beavertails with an Ed Brown wide thumb safety. Don fitted the slide to the frame as well as the Kart barrel, H-D slide stop & EGW bushing. He did a clean, crisp trigger job using Harrison Design Extreme Service ignition set and trigger. Don installed all the lower end small parts, using items from Brown, Wilson, EGW and Harrison Design.
I got off easy with my part of this build. I machined ball cuts on the Springfield slide, flat topped the slide and serrated it 25 lpi, I fitted my new HD-004 Extreme Service rear sight for the Novak style sight cut. I fitted an SDM dovetail front sight, radiused the dovetail to match the slide’s radius and machine matched the border radius for the flat top. The slide got a Carry Bevel and French borders. The rear of the slide was serrated 50 lpi to match the sight. The slide and small carbon steel parts were blued by Heirloom Precision and it was topped off with a set of Harrison Design Carry Groove grips in G-10.
