At this past SHOT Show, I announced my new line of premium quality ammunition, ASYM PRECISION Ammunition. Since then, feedback on the performance of our ammunition has been simply fantastic in all calibers. We use only premium components, develop the loads painstakingly, and take a tremendous amount of care and pride in its manufacture. In fact, we chamber check and hand inspect every round to ensure flawless function.

Up until now, sales have occurred mostly by word of mouth, over the phone. I am pleased to announce the recent opening of our new webstore, where the shooting world can buy our ammo directly from us. Check it out (click on the lower left from my home page):

http://www.chencustom.com
or direct at http://store.chencustom.com

We are producing both Tactical/Defensive loads and Match loads. Here's a shot of some typical results that we get with our Match ammo in tuned firearms. The pistol is Julie Golob's Bianchi pistol (Team Smith & Wesson Captain), that group was shot by me, handheld from prone over bags. I could regularly get 5 shots into 1", 10 would open up to about 1.2-1.3", @ 50 meters.
Image

Our Tactical/Defensive pistol loads use the incredible Barnes TAC-XP bullet (more on this later), while our rifle loads use premium match bullets.

Speaking of Julie G., she has been shooting our ammo exclusively this entire season (yes, she actually pays for it) and is rockin'! So far in 2010 she has racked up the following results, shooting ASYM:
2 World Titles (Steel Challenge Limited and Production)
1 USPSA National Title (Single Stack)
1 USPSA Area Championship
2nd place Bianchi Cup

Finally, I want to thank everyone here for their support of LTW and our mission. We have become a real community here, and you are key to the success of LTW.

Through the month of September, all LTW forum members receive 10% OFF ALL AMMO orders from our webstore. Just use coupon code LTW10, honor system in effect. Be on the lookout for more loads, calibers, and test results in the near future.....

All the best,
Stan

Good to see things are up to speed and ammo is headed out the door. Best of luck, in this undertaking.

Best o'luck on this. I know you've put a metric ton of yourself into it-- so I know it's gonna go well.

The ammo looks great and shoots great. Asym will be going places.

Eternal24K, thanks for the feedback! We just made our "notify" system a little more noticeable, based on your recommendation.

On another note, VZ GRIPS is selling selected loads from their website. They really do make the best G10 and micarta grips available, and you can easily add ammo to your grip order or vice versa. Check them out!

The website looks great...

I just got our ammo order the other day. I'll be finishing up a build soon that the customer will be shooting only hardball out of, and I'll be giving it a test with your match hardball load. It will be great to be able to test with high quality ammo that our customers can easily buy more of themselves, rather than hand loads.

Thanks a lot,

Are you going to offer your MSH in a Arched version anytime in the future
to go with the Magwell Suite?

In 45ACP I don’t shoot much other than 230gr FMJ... I’ve never been super picky when it comes to bullet types so long as it works in my guns with my magazines. I got a case of the Asym 230gr Match Hardball and have been shooting it for the last couple of range sessions. During today’s training I got a chance to bench some of the ammo though a full-house Government Model I recently finished.

Image

This 5 shot group was fired at 20 yards over a set of bags with me attached to the gun, looking over the sights, and pressing the trigger. It measures inside of 1”.

Asym ammo flat out shoots... it’s consistent, reliable, and clean. I’ll happily be loading it in my personal guns.

Just placed my order for .45 ACP, .223, and .308.

Cannot think of a better place to buy ammo then from Stan the man.

More than I am used to paying , BUT you get what you pay for.

The best of luck and success to Stan and his many ventures.

Steve

Roy, glad you got it, let me know how it shoots for ya.

Jason- All I can say is, good thing it wasn't me standing there in that picture! Thanks for posting the report. It also says a lot about the gunbuilder and shooter! That is one finely kept range, where is it?

ASYM Match Hardball may not be "inexpensive", but I believe it is a very good value when you consider its performance, and compare its price to other premium match rounds.

GTG, thank you for your order and support!

Wayne, I will definitely test the commercial waters with 9mm match loads. When 9mm rolls out in the next few months, the main focus will be a defensive/tactical load featuring Barnes copper hollowpoints. I have actually been a bit surprised by the number of requests for 9mm match loads. Loads are already established, and proven in competition, so it will be a simple matter to offer them to the public.

Greg, I'd be honored to see what you think of the ammo. If anyone knows how to wring it out, it's you. He's really modest about it, but do you realize we have an Olympic pistol shooter in our midst?

Alas, no. I think you are about the 2nd or 3rd person to ask for one, not that you aren't important  it would just be too much to tool up to produce very few arched ones. If you really want to have an arched MSH - Magwell Suite for a special project, and are working with a good builder, please contact me. I can think of at least one way where I could really help the process and come up with a solution to make it happen.

Looks pretty neat, huh? As mentioned, it's Julie Golob's Bianchi Cup pistol. As you know, it is a very specialized event, and so of course the equipment in open class is specialized as well.

Built by Bianchi competitor Jay Della Bella.
S&W frame
Caspian slide
6" Kart barrel, chambered in 9mm
Aluminum cone comp.
Caspian Piatt shroud for barricade shooting
Aimpoint M2 (though she used a Micro T1 at the match)
2 lb. trigger with Koenig hammer.

The optic mount is pretty nifty. It's called a "Stick Shift" and is designed for the Mover stage of the cup, where the target moves laterally across the shooting area. See the lever on the back? Flip it one way, or the other, and it offsets the optic left/right so the shooter doesn't have to lead the target with the dot. I forget who makes them, they are made in small quantities.

Look how tall that magwell is. It has nothing to do with speed reloads. As a matter of fact, it's actually kind of a pain to seat the mags in there because it's so tall. Nooooo, that mag well is all about shooting from prone, which is a key component of the match. It is just about the perfect height for planting the pistol right on the deck and taking advantage of all the stability that that contact affords. Made by the same maker of the Stick Shift....driving me nuts I can't remember the name.

I have to say I really got a kick out of shooting and playing with it while testing loads. The pistol really feels huge and handles like a beast compared to what I am used to, but I could definitely see how each mod was necessary to give the competitor that winning edge. But it's really like having a (in my best Dr. Evil) "lazer beam" blaster. The gun/ammo/optic combo made me feel like I had a sniper pistol and I couldn't miss...then again, I suppose most USPSA Open shooters feel that way! Heck I know of plenty of rifles that can't shoot 1"ish at 50m.

This pistol and a good quantity of ASYM ammo is making a long trip down under to Australia very shortly. Julie is gunning for another world title at the World Action Pistol Championships during the first week of October. Wish her all the best!

I received a shipment of Asym ammo, at the range (now, how's that for service?) and had a chance to shoot some into ballistic gelatin.

So, I smack the big gel block and notice (I'm very observant at times) that there was a dust splash on the hill behind. Hmmm. This is the jacketed hollowpoint, right? Soft recoil, so what's up?

I stack a bunch of "tired" gel blocks behind the big one, and shoot some more. I find bullets 34" deep in gel. WTF?? Ned, greatly amused, gets on his cell and texts Stan. The reply?

"It's match ammo. Not supposed to expand."

So, read the box. Match ammo, not supposed to expand. The expanding stuff is in the works.

From Stan' website:

"DEFINITIVE ACCURACY FOR THE 45 ACP.

This is a match winning, extremely accurate load that will tell you just how well your tuned 45 will shoot.

It features the Nosler 185 JHP, prized among serious bullseye shooters for its gilt edged accuracy. This is a mild shooting target load, loaded to 775 fps. which has proven to be a sweet spot in accuracy and function. It is an extremely pleasant load to shoot, especially in extended training sessions. Beware, it may just make you fall in love with your 45 again.

This load will run in most 1911s with a stock 16lb. spring. For more brisk ejection, springs from 10 to 14 lbs. can also be used. 1911's set up to run modern hollow point ammunition should have no problem in feeding this round.

It is loaded in our ASYM MATCH brass, custom drawn and made to our specifications, and is propelled by premium VihtaVouri powder.

Please note: This load is a premium TARGET load. Although it uses a JHP projectile, the bullet is not designed to expand at the given velocity. For a premium DEFENSIVE load, please check out our SOLID DEFENSE XTM (SDX) load featuring the Barnes solid copper TAC-XP bullet."

I know this is kinda in the wrong place, but since the thread pertains to Stan's Ammo, it fits : )

In addition to the wonderful pistol ammo Stan is putting out, he is also offering some superbly accurate rifle ammo.

Below is a picture of my best 5 shot group (so far) using ASYM 223 Remington, 77 Grn HTM. This ammo is extremely consistent, and my average for 5 shot groups is well under 1", with no group breaking 1 MOA. It is so consistent in fact, that I was able to diagnose a bedding problem with my rifle. I was getting 3 shots in one hole, then 2 another - not a large spread, but rather 2 distinct groups (and as stated above, none were over 1 MOA) . I pulled the action out of the stock, bedded it with Brownell's Acraglass, and this is the first 5 shot group after putting it back together. If you throw out the one shot that is high left, that is one TINY group. The outside spread is 0.660", for a group of 0.44 MOA Center to Center.

One other thing to consider...that is a box stock SAVAGE (Model 10PC), and the only mod is the glass bedding. This gun is a 1:9 twist as well, which is a tad on the slow side for this particular bullet weight.

This stuff shoots for sure!

Image

Image
(this is better pic, showing the spread more accurately)

I need to get some more ordered, since I shot up most of it fighting with my bedding problem.

I have not yet been able to spend a quiet afternoon at the range with Asym, but a friend did, and he's a better candidate for accuracy testing anyway. He is a High Master in NRA High Power who has mentored me in same...... he's a regular at Camp Perry, has beaucoups high-end, match AR's in .223, 6mmAR, and maybe a few other calibers. These usually feature barrels made from Krieger blanks or other known-for-incredible-accuracy makes.

I don't see the word "match" on the Asym ammo but from past experience, I find 75 and 77 grain bullets to maybe just be the long-awaited perfect weight for this caliber. Of course in High Power competition, no scopes are used, only irons, but "D" scopes a gun to really check its potential (but I have seen him shoot 10 shots into 2" at 200 yards with irons sights. You read that right, 10 into 2", 200 yards, no scope). "D" reported the following as he tested a new target AR15 upper with some of his competition handloads and some Asym 77's and 75's:
-----------------------------------------

ASYM 77's: Rifle used was a new, unfired, WOA-built upper, with a 26 inch WOA 1-8 blank chambered by John Holliger. A Weaver T-24, fine crosshair/dot scope was mounted. All firing was from sandbags on a bench at 100 yards (there was a 5 +/- knot full value wind, and I elected to fire at 100 yards to minimize the effect.) All groups were ten shots, fired in ten minutes to prevent barrel over-heating from being a factor. Barrel was cleaned after each group, and one fouling shot fired before the next string. Including the ASYM, nine widely varying loads were used to give the broadest possible perspective. The ASYM loads were fired seventh and eighth, to assure there was no "settling in" still going on with any of the testing components.

Asym grouped as well as my best handloads. Certainly better than (current standard for accuracy in factory ammo)...... the ASYM 77's turned in about 1 MOA ten shot groups both times it was fired. Fired brass exhibited no pressure signs.

I'd be perfectly happy firing this ammuntion in serious competition out to 300 yards ("D" uses 80-grainers for 600 yards).

(Results from a different day): ASYM 75's shoot into .750 wide X .390 high for ten shots.
--------------------------------------

Ten shot groups are quite a different animal than five-shot groups. A 1" five shot group is much easier to shoot than a 1" ten shot group-- I would expect ten shot groups to nearly always be larger that five shot groups-- not double, but larger. "D"s results have left me even more anxious to get that range day...... waiting for a scope and a barrel for T&E so I can test as many things at once as possible.

Thanks for posting those test results fellas!

Although I'm a custom pistol builder, I also really have a passion for accurate, high performing Stoner/AR rifles. Though they certainly have their shortcomings, overall they can be a very effective fighting, competition and yes, even hunting platform. Proper ammunition for each purpose is critical, however.

This is what drove me to develop and make these .223 loads. I really just wanted to be able to get the very most out of these rifles. And as Ned mentioned, the high quality 75 and 77's are a great way to get there. I'm happy to see it's shooting great for folks out there....!
