Here's something a little different I've been working on. Different for me anyway as I rarley, rarely work on hi-caps.

STI is now offering subframes in aluminum. This customer wanted me to put Conamyds on the frontstrap for him, which I did but then it was clear it needed them elsewhere too, so I went out to the Conamyd tree and got some more.

I was going to just do that but I suspected the subframe might not just drop in, so I had him send the frame. He mentioned the gun was not realiable, so yup, he sent the whole thing. There was a fair amount of fitting the subframe so I'm glad we went that route. There were several other areas that benefitted from a little tweaking too.

I have a local gunsmith pal who is much more in tune with the hi-caps than I am, so he's working over the 10 or so mags for us. When I get them back, we'll see how it works..... it's in .38 Super.

Ned, you didn't tell me it was in .38 Super. so it isn't "J's" gun, then?

That's just beyond amazing.

The customer asked me to flute the barrel and put some Mini-Myds on top of the slide:

Nobody's gonna ask what the extra hole is for? There's one just like it on the other side.

Good question YK, very astute of you to notice it :D .

Somebody at SHOT told me these new aluminum STI subrames can crack. There is a very thin spot, exacerbated by a cut in the frame that sorta delineates where grips "would" be if there were grips. The holes are along this cut to contain the crack.

Well, exactly! That's why these holes remind me of ones that TechnaGlass dude drilled in my windshield, except that was after it cracked...

Seriously, nice forward thinking, Ned.

STI is aware of the problem and taking measures to prevent it.

Min-myds? I can hardly wait to see what maxi-myds are. Or would they be Super-myds?
