I kinda feel silly posting this here, but when I started this I kinda firgured the worst that could happen is that I send the box off to Ted and ask him pretty please to let Colton fix it. Thankfully, that doesn't need to happen.

When I sent Ted my Milspec back in June I got bored. That's a dangerous thing. I started reading. I started searching the web. I started paying attention to things I saw here.

The result are VERY mild upgrades to a Springfield GI.

What I did:
Ed Brown slide stop
Ed Brown extractor
Ed Brown firing pin and stop
Fitted a new MSH
EMC wide spur hammer slightly bobbed so it won't bite me
Real steel thumb safety
Kings bushing (I really like how it protects the barrel crown)
Kings #104 front sight
Yost retro rear sight
Greider medium length trigger
VZ canvas grips
Thin grip screws and bushings
Wolff Spring Kit
Wilsons sear spring

I was only able to shoot at 50' today, but it's dead on and 100% reliable after 500 rounds.

Here are some pics. The Catapillar machines in the background are for scale. It really is that big.

I really had fun with this. I know it's mild and not involved, but I'm pleased with the results.

That is what is key.
Enjoy,

And that's the other key! :D

What's the story with the Cat models? Are you in that line of work?

I work for Hilti, but I know a Cat rep and he gave me a few for my boy. They are really neat. Detailed and functional. Just thought it would be a funny background for a pistol.

I got a tool catalog a few months ago from a tool company that was also blowing them out. I forget which company though. Sorry.

Hilti! Cool tools. One of our most proficient shooters at the club is a Hilti sales rep, I've gotten a few things from him, like the stuff. John has met him at one of the IDPA matches we hosted down here, but may not remember him. You folks must draw a good crowd to work over there.

Nice work on the Springer by the way.

Bill

mrbieler,
Great pictures and a very nice looking GI. Maybe a new marketing idea for the Yost-Bonitz boys...free Catapillars included in the packages!

They are great pistols!

Best,
JC

I have a GI 1911 too, great gun. Mine feeds all the ammo I can toss at it, from all the brands of ball to many many different hollow points. I did a 3 day handgun course and used it for day #2 (high volume ammo day for me!), it fed flawlessly.

I like those retro sights, and need a set! (Ted, Lew, have an opening for my slide??)

Thanks for all the compliments. I did the final bit of work today.

Since I last posted, I changed out the safety for an Ed Brown, added an Ed Brown disconnector, and installed a EGW sear. The sear and hammer combo worked out very well. The trigger is nice. Just finished up giving all the safeties a good going over and all functions as it should. :)

I'm going to go shot the snot out of it some more and then think about a finish. Right now, I'm leaning towards having all the new parts parkerized and having Gunkote applied over that. Should give it a nice durable finish.

This will be my "going to the desert" pistol.
