I have a customer on the west coast who wanted a full house Hi-Power with a beavertail, match barrel and C&S mag well, along with flattened and serrated slide, Heinie sights, hi-cut front strap. Gun was finished with IonBond lower and hardchrome upper. Grips are VZ Pro Slims. Sorry for the quality of the pics, it looks as though my camera is on it's last legs.

I tried HP's years ago but just could not wrap my hands around them.
This is however a stunning example that makes me wish I had tried harder.

Don

I'm considering Ionbond for my next 1911. What are your thoughts on this finish? Any preference to who applies (may only be one shop, I'm not sure).

Thanks.

Officially the nicest (to my eyes anyway) Hi-power I have seen.
I have also never seen a magwell on a HP that looked "right"...

That is simply magnificent.

The few HP's I've done, I've tried to talk the customers into a magwell.... oddly enough that's the first HP I've seen with one and it looks great! Nice job ol' pal.

Fantastic! After our conversations and seeing these, and the other photos, I may to find a High Power.
Well done, Don.

I have "fondled" this HP. :D

Don is in the Batcave right now with his nail file, hammer, and some good ol' elbow grease working on mine right now!

This has to be one of the nicest FN (Hi-Power) I have seen lately.
Great job Don. (As always)

sspegram, I'm actually very happy with the IonBond finish. I had some reservations at first, but fortunately, they have been allayed.

Also, thanks for the many compliments.

Don did a Colt for me in the opposite scheme- hardchrome on the frame and Ion Bond on the slide. So far it's holding up great. No visible wear at all and no rust, on a gun I carry daily. It did take about 200 rounds to break in after the re-finish, but once everything kind of lapped in it runs perfectly. At first I thought some of the Ion Bond flaked off the breech face on the slide, but it was actually wearing a thin layer of steel off the barrel as it broke in. Came off with a stiff brush and some solvent, and hasn't happened again. I like it well enough that I'm going to have Don do another gun completely in Ion Bond when my toy fund recoups.

Don, that's a nice gun! The magwell and the grip safety are fantastic- I can't imagine how much work that was to get it to flow seamlessly like that. Like the thumb safety, too.
