Have any of the pistol gurus here installed the Heinie mag well on a 5" carry gun? Just throwing some ideas around and was hoping to get some feedback. Good, bag or ugly.

Thanks!

I've installed a number of them, and don't really see any downside to using it on a carry gun, as it dramatically increases the opening size without making the gun longer or wider. Another benefit is that the Heinie well is the only one that can be used on an alloy framed gun (Ti or aluminum), since it is secured with screws vs. the typical solder method. I'll have a couple of guns at SHOT with these installed. I have some pics on my hard drive that I need to upload to Imagestation. If I get the chance, I'll see if I can post some after I get back from the show. Regards,

Slighty off topic - has anyone seen the Morris Custom magwells that Brownells is now selling? I can't tell exactly by the photo but it looks like a Heinie mag well without the flanges so it has to be welded or silver-soldered to the frame.

Dave, Just went to his website and looked at it. It looks lie the Heinie from outside, but has an extension that projects up into a cut you make inside the magwell. It is then silver soldered or tigged to attach. Looks pretty clean, but I'd have to see one in person.

I've seen the Morris magwell on a S/A but I didn't like how it looked on the gun. Maybe the person that installed it didn't follow the instructions or what-not hence my interest in the Heinie unit.

I like and have used the Heinie-mag wells a number of times. One of the nice things about them is you can add front strap treatment at a latter time or even point up damaged checkering.

Thanks Todd for the close up pics. BTW, did your gunsmith have to do any blending between the magwell and the frame? Or does the magwell fit right up with no blending required?

Thanks!

This is a pic of one after the milling has been done. Lots of hand blending and grip fitting still to be done. To answer your question every area of the fit needs lots of attention.
