Not sure if I saw the crack. But I do recognize the seller. He is a friend and a co-moderator at the 1911forum. He also posts here from time to time. He is a stand up guy, have a heart of gold and I trust him. If you have any questions, you can contact him directly through this site.

Are you referring to the "crease", for the lack of better word, just under where the ball cut starts, where it meets the top corner of the dust cover?

I don't think it's a crack. I have the same crease on my commander slide that John Harrison built for me. I guess it serves some kind of purpose, it never bothered me, so I never asked.

That's the "ball" cut. Terry has had this one up for a couple months.

Bob: He's not talking about the ball cut itself. It's the horizontal line about 1/4" long just below the ball cut itself that he's referring to.

Yeah.......it looks like a crack, but it's a trustworthy seller so we were saying it's not a crack, but I was trying to figure out what it is and what the purpose is.

I know I just can't properly articulate what I'm trying to convey. That same "line" is present on non ball cut guns as well.

I just looked at the pictures. There is no crack - it's just part of the way I do ball cuts. Someone is going to get a very nice piece.

Unless you're seeing something I'm not, I don't see anything that looks remotely like a crack...... maybe you can circle it and/or zoom up but I think you're seeing the same transition from one feature to another
that every 1911 and most pistols in general have, ball cuts or no ball cuts.

Hover over the picture; right click your mouse and choose "view image"; then, hold the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard and press the " + = " next to the 'Backspace' key until the image stops enlarging.

You can see it's not a crack but a rounded shape in the metal, casting a shadow just below it. The 'shape' is a feature of the ball cut-- I dunno how a ball cut is done, but if you imagine a ball-shaped grinder cutting into the side of the slide to the correct depth, it would leave that portion of the metal untouched when the depth of the cut matched the rest of the forward portion of the slide where it's been "ball cut".
