I just finished this Colt up for a good customer out of Texas. We started with a new, in the wrapper .45 ACP, which is kind of a treat since I've had a run of really old, beat up donor pistols to build lately. He is a 1911 aficionado so he had a very specific list of parts that he prefers on all of his shooters. I tightened up the slide to frame fit but we kept the factory Colt barrel. Most of the time, with a little bit of tweeking, the factory Colt barrels shoot really well. This one is no exception. After a new match fit bushing and tightening up the slide/frame fit a little bit, this particular barrel ended up fitting nice and tight. The groups that this one shoots are exceptional. One of the main preferences he has is an Ed Brown beavertail due to the super high grip that it affords. I don't always particularly like the looks of the Ed Brown beavertails so we bought one of the new barstock beavertails that Brown sells and I did a little bit of grinding and polishing on it to give it a cleaner look and still get the highest grip possible on the pistol. Next on the list was a Wilson 30 LPI mainspring housing, and Ed Brown thumb safety, Wilson Combat rear sight, a Novak gold bead front sight and at my request, a Harrison ignition set. I kept the factory trigger but I built it up and machined it back down to get all of the slop out. The outstanding 30LPI checkering on this one is by Pete Single. As far as aesthetics goes the customer has very similar tastes as me, which is very classic, subtle customization. He wanted a mild carry bevel package and dehorn, a French border, a round butt and that's about it in order to maintain the classic Colt lines. I hand polished the entire pistol to 1000 grit and then burnished it to give it a nice satin finish that I like and then I blued it. The grips were supplied by the customer. Thanks for looking, JT...

Nice one JT, the rounding at the butt is the perfect "in between".
