Don Wiliams has been building high quality 1911 and Browning Hi Powers at the highest level for years. The pictrures below only represent a small sample of Don's work. From carry guns to target style pistols it is amazing how he has been the best kept secret in the industry. A true gentleman, and a great smith. I am only sorry I can't take more pictures of his work. Later this week I will post two other guns by Don.

Great looking pics Steve!

You're absolutely right about Don. I had the pleasure of sharing a dinner table with him and he's a riot! Joking aside, Don's work along with everyone else's here is overwhelming.

So many wants, so little money :(

Well done Don! Those serrations on the Colt slide are a nice touch.

Steve, Many thanks for the photos (which Steve volunteered to do by the way), as my photo skills are lacking (to be kind). Also, thanks to Mr. Rogers for the Golf Ball and scallops (note to self - buy a d*#n rotary table). Now all Mr. Bailey has to do is decide if he wants to be a gunsmith/photographer, as he obviously has skills in both areas, or continue working for Mr. Arpaio. :D

I cant wait to get my hands on the Springfield. I fondled it at the SHOT show and am very happy with how it turned out. When I first sent it to Don it was supposed to be a Jeep pistol with just a few minor alterations, but then things kinda spiraled out of control  . This is the 6th pistol Don has built for me along with all the little stuff sights ect, and as always Don has been great to work with. I also would like to say that I really like the Scallops (done by Chuck Rogers) and the pictures of both pistols by Mr. Bailey are outstanding as well. Thanks to all involved.
Steve.

As good as Steve's pictures are, they don't do justice to the craftsmanship they represent. I can tell you, without reservation, that I really did not want to put that Colt back in the case when I pawed it in Vegas. This is a gun that will, as Jason would say, "speak to you". Marvelous work!

LTW, both collectively, and as individuals, represent the best in human nature, and there is no better proof of that than a conversation with Don Williams.

This group of workaholics can shoot down all stereotypes tied to the term.

Be well!

Congrats to the new owner. I hope he doesn't mind a little of my drool which fell on it at the SHOT show.

Don is one of those guys that builds a great gun and is a real gentleman to boot, as are all the LTW folks.

Best,

Ray

Greetings,
The relief in the left side of the Colt's beavertail looks interesting. I typically tape up the part of my thumb that will contact that area of a stock beavertail when I'm going to spend a long day shooting. This modification would likely eliminate the need for such precautions.
Can you tell us more about it? Is it relieved on both sides of the beavertail for appearance sake?

Thanks! :D

I'm not Don, but I have done it also for two reasons.

The first being exactly the issue that you are describing and the second being that it gives the beavertail a smaller footprint, which I like for concealed carry.

Yes, it is done on both sides of the beavertail.

ktmhk, That particular beavertail is an STI, which comes with the indents. I know that some folks add their own, but I used this one just to use something different. Regards,

WOW! Nice work! Don did a Colt for my brother-in-law which is one of the best firearms I've ever seen.

On the stainless Colt, I thought that Colt Series 80's could have adjustables installed because of the series 80 parts in the slide? Were you able to get around that by setting the site back a bit? Sorry for the novice question. The curiosity is killing me.

Hey Don, 2 questions:

1. What type of finish is applied to the Springfield?
2. What type of barrel bushings were used on both pistols?

Thanks!

Will

Mustang, You're correct in that the Bo-Mar is set slightly to the rear due to the location of the series '80 plunger location.
Will, the Springfield has parkerizing done by Texas Armament. The barrel bushings are by MGW. Thanks,

Beautiful work, Donmon.

Those of us who met for the first time at SHOT, which I believe is at least half of us, I think had some fun comparing what we thought a particular person was going to be like, versus the reality. I thought Don was going to be a little bit reserved and maybe even quiet, probably because he has been less
in evidence on the forum than some of us. Fact is he is friendly and funny, and he can BS with the best of us. As to being a less frequent poster here, the pics make it obvious why that is!

Actually, I found that the old saying "Better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and confirm it", firmly applies to me.

Greetings Ray and Don,
Thanks for the replies. After all the years of having to tape up my thumb I now see that it could have been avoided.

Damn, Don! Nice work as usual!! I'm drooling in anticipation of your work on my Commander (Poke, Poke ) Just kidding... I've finally learned, no matter how long it takes, it well worth the wait!

I sure wish I could have made it down to Vegas for SHOT. I'd have given what's left of my eye teeth to meet you guys. Oh well, my wife mentioned a trip to Arizona this summer, trying to cheer me up!
