That one, at least on the left side, hardly needs any attention to the lines above the trigger guard, rare bird for a Colt eh? Is the other side as good?

Truly impeccable work...... you just don't see that everywhere, folks.

We all know what impeccable means, but I looked it up as I cast about for maybe a stronger word. I would say it works:

"Having no flaws; perfect. synonym: perfect."

Yup, it fits! It also said:

"Not capable of sinning or not liable to sin."

OK, it's been a while now since I last hung out with Burton at SHOT. I'm not sure is this part works as well..... not saying it doesn't, just not.... sure

Photo of the day... a bit of cosmetic repair on the current Colt 38 Super project.

There are times when little cosmetic challenges that have to be tackled, this “clipped” corner on the right side of the dust cover is one of them. This is something I have seen before and is more prevalent, although not a given, on older Colts.

My initial thought was to match the other side, but a bit of encouragement convinced me to weld it. Even though it is a very small area the work piece is thin and I was worried about a heat line being visible... but the lord hates a coward so weld it I did. So far it’s a win and it should blue up just fine.

Very nice rescue. Having that kind of thing 100% guaranteed not to show after bluing is... iffy. I think it shows less on a papered surface like that as opposed to blasted or buffed.

...then there are those times when "oops, used stainless rod by accident"!

Jason while I'm not the biggest fan of the squared trigger guard this one looks amazing, another masterpiece.

Lots of stuff finished recently and getting photographed. In the meantime a fresh build on a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec is currently on my bench...

... slide top serrations...

Image

... the results of a weld-up frame and slide fit....

Image

... and after a bit of measuring, machining, and magic the oversized ejector and Kart are fit to the gun. The red Sharpie applied to the slide illustrates the contact between the barrel and slide on all three radial lugs.

Great stuff Jason..... I love those Karts too. I want to say, "none better".... I think I'm safe in saying that, what do you think? That doesn't mean "the best", it just means "of the best, it is one". I think we have a lot of good choices and from my POV I can't say that there is one that is clearly, and by far, "the best".

Ya know we see the same sort of photos over and over, yet they never fail to impress. So either I'm such a simpleton that I'm easily amused or there's just a megaton load of outstanding attention to detail on every one of your builds. Not to pat myself on the back too much, but I believe that I'm blessed with the ability to recognize talent, skill, an eye for the aesthetic, and hard work when I see it.

There's nothing about your builds that scream "Look at me! I'm the latest gee whiz gadget!" Just solid, classic, beautiful, extremely well executed work.

I've noticed that you are religious about your head spacing. I am curious how you arrived at .904" as your chosen headspace dimension, given that I've only seen one or two rounds out of many thousands that were at .899". All the rest were around .893"-.895".

Shoots good...

Image

… what would have been a really good group ruined by me, the one round outside the group was my 2nd shot…

Image

Image

Safe to say that as long as I do my part by not moving the gun as I jerk the trigger the gun shoots right where it’s supposed to - 5 rounds from standing at 25 yards.

My my, that is nice.

One post up there is a target with a one-hole group and one that got out a bit. Even with the outlier it's a great group. I read the note on the target: "25 yards from sandbags", and I though, wish I could do that from sandbags. Then I re-read it: from standing. Remind me to never challenge you to a grouping contest. Amazing shooting, amazing guns!

Dang Jason, Following along with your projects, agreeing with Ned's assessment ("impeccable"), and then you toss out ivory on blued engraving - - - Just WOW!

I have a total weakness for such guns (see the one John built me as my retirement gift "from me to me": https://forum.ltwguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9669)

Beyond impeccable . . . if that's possible!
