This was my first 1911, which I bought several years ago. I bought it used and it came in a plastic bag from a gun dealer in South Eastern Michigan. When I first got it had the factory adjustable sights and nice finish that is on almost every Gold Match.

The first thing that I did was get a set of Heinie sights to replace the factory adjustable sights. I had these put on at a local shop, and while at a class the rear sight fell off the slide. In addition to that it would just not feed reliably no matter what I feed it, and no matter what kind of magazines I used. Then in addition to those two problems the stainless steel of the frame and slide would rust on me almost any time I used the pistol, even if I hurried home to clean it.

About this time I called Ned explained the situation. I sent him a wish list and I stopped by to see him at his shop so he could see the gun and we could talk the project out. After that the painful waiting began.

Right in line with the quoted lead-time I got a call from Ned. Of course by then my ideas had changed slightly so I stopped by the shop again and we rehashed the details and I turned him loose with my beloved problem child Kimber.

We ended up with this…

Unfortunately I did not get a good shot of the back of the gun. There is a lot of good work on the back of the slide, I will try to get some better pictures of this and the muzzel tomorrow.

The gun is now unstoppable. On it's test drive it swallowed everything without a hitch even using some magazines that a few other guns I was shooting could not feed at all.

After getting about 500 rounds through it without a problem I have been carrying it as much as possible. I am trying to wear Ned's Black Stainless finish off.

Yesterday I mowed the law in 90degree heat with about 95% humidity, then went out to diner and at the end of the night I finally took the Kimber from my holster. I found a small amount of rust on the front strap, which wiped off with a oily rag.

I am a very happy camper! Thanks to Ned for all the hard work. I can't wait until next time.

Nice looking gun there. Did the Gunner Grips come loose at all while you were firing? I have some on an SA and love them, but the holes seem a little big for the bushings and the screws back out a little after about 25 rounds.

Never had any trouble with the gunners. I have actually had them on several 1911's haven't had troujble keeping them on.

I did use some emry cloth on them to soften up the edges a bit, but other than that they are stock and very nice.

Ned's work is always creative, perfectly done, and worth taking a look at. Thanks for the photos. Congrats on the gun.

That's what I thought. I think the bushings I put on are too small.

You said your Kimber had on a "black stainless" finish. Is that a coating for stainless guns? Also, are you aware if the cuts in the slide needed to be modified for your new rear sight?

Very nice. I am always eager to see pictures of the guns produced by the LTW crew. They are always different, and painstakingly finished.

Be well!

No need for new cuts on the slide. Heinie makes a sight that fits the Kimber Factory Adjustable Sight cut.

My sight was really loose, and Ned had to do some tweaqing to fit it in right.

The finish that Ned used is the same as the two guns from Ned's "Back in Black" thread. I am not sure exactly what the process is, but it is a metal treatment and not a coating. So far it's turned my rust bucket into a durable gun.

Also about your Gunners have you tried loc-tite on or fingernail polish to lock them on a litttle better. I think maybe I used one or the other prior to giving this gun to Ned.

Thanks everyone else for the complements.

Tastefully done with Ned's usual great attention to detail. Thanks for the look!
