I note most makers enclose the bottom of the holster instead leaving it open. It seems to me that the holster would be approximately 1/4" to 3/8" shorter if it was left open and thus easier to conceal. Also if for some reason when wearing and the holster was empty something accidently fell into it, the object would drop out. So what is the reason to enclose the bottom :?: :D

"...most makers enclosed the bottom of the holster..."
I find just the opposite to be true. None of my designs have a closed muzzle for exactly the reason you cited, (except for my pocket holsters where it is closed specifically to keep pocket lint out of the muzzle). I wrap the leather over the muzzle but don't sew it closed. I think the only holster Lou makes with a sewn closed muzzle is his Hide-out IWB. Sparks Execuitive Companion is their only closed muzzle design that comes immediately to mind. I can't readily think of any of Mitch Rosen's designs in his offerings that have a closed muzzle. Josh Bulman makes a similar version of Lou's Hide-out (his TSAF); the only closed muzzle design I can think of from Josh. And I believe Matt DelFatti will do open or closed muzzle at the customer's request (as will I but I rarely have closed requested) but most of Matt's offerings pictured on his site have open muzzles. Even most of the holsters from the big mass-manufactuers like Galco and Desantis have open muzzles. Maybe the photos are deceiving and make a wrapped muzzle appear closed (or the stitching across the bottom open-edge of a lined holster makes it look sewn closed). Just curious where you came up with this assumption when I can only think of one design per manufactuer with a broad range of offerings that has the muzzle sewn closed??
(I posted this from memory without consulting any other manufacturer's web-sites, so it may be slightly more than 1 design per; but still the vast majority have open muzzles).

Yeah,, We don't close the muzzle on any of our holsters, except the Hideout, and our J frame Talon, and that is done for rigidity, and to help keep the holster open without having to use a reinforcing band.
I can't remember seeing very many holsters with closed bottoms these days.
What holster makers were you referring to?
Lou

I just had another thought. Some makers, including me, do close the muzzle on some of the very short guns with an IWB holster. We do that to add length to the overall package ( like with Seecamps, etc ), to provide a little more stability so the holster doesn't feel like it's going to squeeze up out of your pants.

I stand corrected. In most photos you see it appears the bottom is enclosed. The angle of the camera.
