Patrick I recently started a thread on here about customizing a 29 like the 629 that you have as a photo in the Handguns magazine.

It shows the bbl being abbreviated at the very end of the ejector rod housing. What is the distance from your forcing cone to the muzzle?

It appears to be about 3.3"s. And I assume your front sight is a Powers Custom front sight? He doesn't list that sight anymore. Know who makes one of that configuration?

The barrel is 3-1/8" long. The sight came out of Brownells almost twenty years ago, so it probably was a Powers but I don't recall. Once S&W came out with their snubbie 629, there wasn't any reason to indulge myself building more, so I stashed it on the shelf and left it there.

Eight years ago or so I had the luck to be able to handle and range-test Larry Kellys personal snubi-fied 29. The prototype he built to begin the Mag na Port custom line. Very nice gun, and almost exactly what I had built. I probably had photos of Larrys gun in mind (his built late 70s) when I was making mine (built late 80s).

Thanks for the quick reply. I was lusting heavily after N Frame Snubbies in those years without the financial means to secure such a weapon.

I have a 29-4 with the Smith Magna Ported BBl that is 2 5/8s" beyond the frame. Full under lug. Balance is good but the Magna Porting doesn't like Lead bullets. And I shoot Keith SWCs exclusively.

Thanks for your help.

Bronco, You might place a call to Ron Power. Tho' he doesn't show the sights on his website anymore, I've had success getting both the ramp and Patridge styles from him, and last got some about 90 days ago.
