Last year I had the Yost-Bonitz shop work one of my pistols. I liked their work so much that I asked Ted if I could start coming by in order to learn a few things about building custom pistols. After spending just a few days with Ted I was amazed at how much work goes into the pistols that he builds. His attention to detail is incredible. Everyone in the shop took time to answer my questions and teach me something new. After learning some basics, I ordered a Springfield government model and went to work. With a huge amount of help from Ted and the rest of the guys in the shop, it turned out very nicely. I'm not the best photographer but here are some pictures.

Thank you to everyone at the Yost-Bonitz shop!

Zack,

That's a helluva good looking first build! Congratulations on accomplishing something very few people, including myself, would never have the guts to try. Are you going to make a habit of it? It has become quite apparent that ole Theo is a great teacher. Congrats and kudos to all involved.

GOD Bless

Zack,
I watched you painstakingly build this gun. You did a fine job on this gun. Patience makes a huge difference in how they end up. It only gets a little harder from here. You are off to a great start.

Be proud, Zack.

I wish you'd taken a good photo of your first checkering job. There are guys that have been doing it for years that don't get things that straight.

The easy part is over. Now for the next gun. You'll raise the bar on yourself every time. If you don't, you can bet I sure will :P

There aren't a lot of guys that you'd let hang around a shop when they're not making you money. Zack has a way of making himself useful that is quite refreshing. He's not just there for Zack - he's a team player who gets involved and helps wherever he can, even if it means just hanging around after hours and helping me sweep up.

Zack, if that whole gainfully employed thing doesn't work out for you, you can hang with us

Beautiful.

Makes me wish I lived in Arizona and could learn from the artisans at YO-BO.

Congratulations! Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Anybody ever get the feeling that Ted is so giving to others in attempt to make up for his "wild years"? Again, the LTW 'smiffs have gone out of their way to ensure the prosperity of the craft. It is a great thing.

Zack,

Congrats on finishing her. You definetely have the right attitude, desire to learn, and the talent of being able to translate what you are looking for into your hand movement.

I can't wait to see your next project.

Best,

Ray

Zack, congratulations on your first project. I'm envious of the skills you've acquired (and the results, too!) - the pistol looks simply great.

Ted, in a world full of self-important people ("beat it kid, you bother me"), you're an exception for all of us to admire and appreciate. God bless you for your generosity of time and goodness of heart.

Thanks for all the compliments! The next project is already in the planning stages and should be getting started here pretty soon.

Ted is a great teacher. He always seems to know when to walk over to where I am working and make a suggestion right before I mess up. :P

One of the best things about the YOBO shop is associating with quality, down-to-earth individuals who truly care about the customer and doing exceptional work every time. They always go the extra mile. It is good to know that there are people out there who aren't only interested in themselves and want to give something back. I am proud to be a part of it. When I first asked Ted if I could start coming by, he told me that he felt responsible to teach the trade in order to keep it alive, while not asking anything in return. Hopefully I contribute somewhat and make it worthwhile to them. I will stay as long as they let me hang around :D

Zack, Congratulations. I have to say I am not surprised in the least.

Zack speaks of quality people and he knows what he is talking about. I recently completed a transaction with Zack and let's just say it was of an unusual nature. From my own experience I can say that Zack is one of those quality people and an absolute gentleman as well. It is obvious to me that Mr. Yost has a talent for surrounding himself with quality people both in skill and character. Thanks Zack and I look forward to seeing much more of your work.

Best,
Steve

Zack, Beautiful job. You have been blessed to be able to 'hang' with a great teacher, and a wonderful human being.. It's a once in a lifetime chance to be able to learn from a man of Ted's stature.
The rest of the guys at YoBo are a class act also.
Absorb all the knowledge you can
Lou
