Does anyone here have any experience with the Caspian adjustable that fits the Novak lo-mount sight cut?

I have a Springfield that shot low so I had my smith mill the front side down. It works well at the range but I have a hard time picking up the smaller sight when I shoot at speed. At this point I am not interested in flat topping the slide and since the gun is stainless I am not looking at welding up the slide and recutting it. Which leaves me in search of an adjustable sight that will work. I like the concept behind the Caspain because it is the only sight that I know of that fits the Novak cut and is adjustable for both elevation and windage.

I assume that if Gary is willing to put his name on it that is probably a really good part. Has anyone installed one or played around with it? My concern is that it won't stand up to fairly heavy use.

Thanks,

Pete

I have a set on a gun done by TTI Custom. The gun is their 5 inch ISPC model with a Caspian frame, slide and Briley barrel. The sites are about the size of Bomars. However, the rear site blade is rounded "at the top" and the notch is wider. I think if the gun is going to be used for a "speed" shooting event they are a very good choice since you can pick up the front site fast.

Pete,
If you have a hard-use application, have you considered Novak's tall version of the Lo-Mount? It's about .050" taller than the original and would let you put a taller front sight back on the gun.

I don't have any personal experience with the Caspian sight that you mention, although I have seen it in person. My off-cuff feel is that there are fair odds that any of the adjustables that fit a Novak cut will eventually break. I would also think it would take a lot of rounds and that you can probably detect impending doom by inspecting and wiggling.

I never knew there was such an animal. That sounds like a reasonable option. Thanks for the heads up.

John is there something about the Novak style that would make them more fragile than the Bomar's?

TJ it sounds like you are talking about Caspian's version of the Bomar. I am thinking of the sight that looks a lot like a Novak rear.

I think the current production Novak's are as good as any. My basis for that statement is that some of the small parts seem a bit smaller than those used in a Bo-Mar. We all know Bo-Mar is a great sight and will give a good life, but it will break if subjected to enough cycles of acceleration & deceleration, while riding on top of a slide. I figure if a Bo-Mar will eventually break, then probably any other will too. Eventually.

All that said, if I wanted an adjustable rear sight in my slide that already had a Novak cut, I'd not hesitate to use any that you've mentioned.
