I'm not sure, but it meets my needs.

I decided to play with my camera a little today while taking photos of my new 57 and thought that I would share my 640-1 PC with you guys. It has become a faithfull companion when I need something small.

This is a 640-1 (.357 and no MIM) that started life with the Performance Center. As has been my experience with the PC guns, the action was 75% there but not finished. I then decided to finish it how I liked it.

I just did a few additional small items to make it what I wanted.

- Trigger face has been properly rounded and rechromed
- Thumb latch has been dehorned.
- Rubber grips were replaced with a nice set of Spegel Boot Grips.
- Timing was corrected.
- Action tune was finished.
- Sight channel, notch, and relief have been recut so that you can actually view the entire front sight and make fast shots at distance with this little J frame.
- Tritium insert has been replaced since it was old and dead.

The leather gear is from my friend Matt DelFatti.

Enjoy the photos.

Ray

Nice, Ray. I have a PC 640-1 that has been my constant companion/back-up piece for many years. Looks like yours, except I've replaced the Spegel boot grips that were once on it with Crimson Trace laser grips to compensate for (poor shooting) old eyes. Best regards, Jim

Nice one Ray. Thats a J-Comp from Lew Horton. I have its big brother, the F-Comp(K frame stainless). Great revolvers and great pics!

That's nice stuff Ray. Congrats to you and Matt.

Who thought of the speed strip/flashlight carrier? Great idea. Knowing Matt's work, I'm sure it's executed perfectly.

Chip,

Thanks for the compliment.

I'm the guilty one on that combination in leather. I always carry a flashlight and wanted to carry a second reload, due to the capacity of a J frame. Matt executed the idea beautifully. It doesn't collapse and pulls easily. That is my secondary reload and the primary is the speed strip pouch which is worn in front of the holster on my strong side at about 2:00.

Best,

Ray

Classical execution of machined steel and leather. Beautiful and very functional. What is the wood in the Spegels? Thanks for sharing I'm envious, really envious.

Hey Chip:
Yes Ray did come up with the Speed Strip/Flashlight carrier concept. I confess I was a bit apprehensive about how the Speed Strip side would work considering the rubber tab you pull to release it but, I guess I was wrong!

Nice wheel gun Ray!

Matt-

Are you going to add this to your line of accessories? I agree with Ray about carrying a flashlight and I also carry a flap pouch at 2 o'clock. I would be interested in one myself.

Thanks-

Chip

Ray it's looking great! I like the thumb latch, it's the one thing on my 340PD that will get me when I shoot right handed. (I'm a natural leftie)

Hey Chip:
Well there is no real line. I just build for customers so the answer is sure, I'll build you one if you'd like.

M. Hall:
I completely agree! I never understood why the Speed Strip line wasn't expanded to the big bores.

I never cared much for snubbies. Not sexy, not big on firepower, not easy to shoot accurately, yada yada.

Coupla years ago there was a little incident that got my elderly dear ol' Dad thinking along the lines of having something that was pocket-friendly. I talked to one of my Chicago-area cop pals who also happens to have a gun store that is also a police supply and a place that tends to get police trade ins. I told him next time you get a five-shot .38, not .357 but .38, traded in, if it's stainless, hammerless or not, full of pocket lint but mechanically sound, let me know. He produced one almost right away and at a great price. Gave it to Dad for Father's day that year after a quick go-through and a neatening-up of the dehorning of the hammer. He was pretty amused by the gift and happy to have it.

Before I gave it to him I toted it around a bit, shot it a bit, and turned it over in my hands quite a bit, giving it all some thought. And I thought-- I definitely never gave these things the proper credit.

This one of Dad's anyway, has a very useable action, holds a group all out of proportion to its stubby sight radius, and is sighted-in so well that getting 4 out of 5 on an 8X12 steel plate at 50 yards is not unusual. And it disappears so well into the waistband with the grips that came on it, forgot the name, but they have a little belt hook built in. Definitely better to be out and about with this little feller than to be out and about with a .45 left at home because it was too big for the occasion!

Two revolvers! The TAG guys are going to start wrrying...
Anyway, excellent revolver. I have a 640 and it has the best action of any J frame I have ever tried. Tell Russ I said "hi".

Ray, nice work! I am sorry to say my M60-10 is a better starting point in my eyes. Why? It makes shooting 357 Mags easy. Once again, nice work. Regards, Richard :D

That is a sweet carry rig! Nice work Ray!

Just got my first carry rig from Mat Del Fatti and I have to say if you don't have some of his work.....you need to get in line!!!

I have been thinking about a similar rig for a S&W 442! I really like the milled out sight channel!

Nice work.

Tom

I agree with the above posts, that is an excellent looking combo. I don't spend much time in the wheelgun section and I see I have been missing out.

Can you tell me if the dual carrier for flashlight and speedstrip was cut for a revolver or for another weapon that you just happen to find out it fit into.

Thanks. Its a very nice rig.
