Well, after really paying attention, the new Baer hard chrome TRS I brought home yesterday has a serrated main spring housing rather than the checkered one the TRS is supposed to come with. I called Brenda at LB today and she said, "oops". She then talked to Les and he said if I would send it to them, they would replace the msh, fit it, plate it, and send it back. She indicated they would do that right away. My dilemma is do I want to do that? If they fit it to the frame as well as the current one is fit, it seems that in blending the bottom radiused edge there is the risk of getting into the plating on the frame which would necessitate re-chroming that too. I'm not sure I want that as the blending right now is perfect. Also, I am having trouble deciding if a serrated msh might not be better for concealed carry as it may not abrade clothing so badly. And, it is a unique piece.....Opinions....please?

I think you've got it all figured out correctly. I wouldn't pretend to know what the Baer Shop is or isn't capable of doing, but your concern about being able to blend the replacement MSH exactly to the frame is valid IMO. For a carry piece, I'd rather have a serrated MSH to be less snaggy to cover garments.

Thank you for your quick reply, John. I talked to Les, and he said what they would do is checker the existing MSH, have it re-chromed, and return it to me. That certainly solves the blending problem since the serrations and the checkering are both 20 lpi. However, I agree with you that the serrated finish is easier on clothes, and I'm leaning toward leaving it as is...I think...lol

If you are going to carry the gun concealed, I'd stick with the serrated MSH. I agree with John, it makes the gun much less likely to snag on clothing and 'print'. I like checkered MSHs for guns I'm not going to CCW much, but went with serrated for dedicated carry guns. Seems to work out pretty well.

I agree with John and sparky on the serrations being less snaggy.

Well, I'll throw my usually opposite opinion into the gearworks. Of course its all personal opinion here. I happen to like 30lpi(and even 40) on my carry guns and I carry 24/7. I feel the checkering gives me the best all 'round compromise for weapon platform stability in all conditions and all weather.

I've never had a problem with clothes because I buy all outside garments one size larger than necessary; over-shirts, dark t-shirts, suede jacket-shirts, etc.
