With so many fine guns going to Shot it was hard to take photos of all of them. One thing that is going to be added to LTW Team and Charity guns this year is the working with the best knifemakers in the county and incorporate their ideas during the building of the guns with a corresponding knife and then touching everything off with the leather.

This is one of the first collaborations between Yost-Bonitz and Trace Rinaldi. A new Series 70 Colt with YoBo Pro Grade sights, pure carbon fiber stocks cut by John Van Zyck at VZ grips, Kart barrel, and YoBo internals, and just like the knife the gun is finished in Tungsten DLC. This is a very hard almost black chrome finish. Appropriately the "Covert Action" knife was crafted by Trace Rinaldi, with pure carbon fiber handles, and coated in DLC. The head treating was done by Paul Bos. A perfect sized fixed blade, with a flat ground blade.

This is the start of collaborations by the smiths here at LTW and knifemakers like Neil Blackwood, Kit Carson, Jim Burke, and our knifemaker to the Stars Trace Rinaldi. The leather seen in the photos was made by our newest Board of Director inductee Josh Bulman. Some fine things coming up.

It is nice to see this type of teamwork.

I know all the knifemakers you mention and they are all world class.

Except for Kit. He is more like "Universe-class".

DLC is an excellent finish, but is not chrome. It is much, much harder.

Thanks Anthony,
The actual explanation was a little lengthy for the post but it seems to hold up well so far. It is hard, wears well so far, the corrosion resistance will tell in time.

I really like the finish though.

My two favorite makers, YoBo and Trace. :D

Hey Trace, once I'm done giving all my money to YoBo we need to talk about a knife. I need to spread the wealth a little.

Wait a minute, what wealth? :( :P

Wow, that's beautiful.

And, where can I learn more about that finish?

Private e-mails are a far more appropriate manner to make serious inquiries into the cost of products and service of professionals. Besides, it is a great excuse to talk to a truly fine craftsman or two. Just remember, time is money.

As to the finish, There have been a few reviews of Tungsten DLC, but at the moment, I cannot recall the source(s).

Very sweet!! Those matched sets look (almost) too pretty to put to hard use.

The first PATRIOT Online Class 1911's were finished in the Bodycote Tungsten DLC (Diamond Like Coating). Darrel Lewis did them at no charge. That was about four years ago. Our connection in the Plant in NC informed us that they would no longer do individual pistols because of the people who sent them didn't prep them like I did. It is the best gun finish I have seen in my lifetime and I am glad that Ted managed to get one done. It is very hard and durable, but it has to be kept oiled because it will rust. My EAGLE 1 still looks like the day I got it back. He did it for me as a gift. Many thanks to Bodycoat in NC!

First post here...I've been lurking for a while, but this set has forced me to come out of hiding. That Tungsten DLC finish is absolutely beautiful! I don't know if I've ever seen anything like it! After reading Mr. Sample's post, it appears that the finish is a tough to come by - is it still possible to get this done? I'm hoping to buy a new toy this summer, and I think this may be the way to go...

Welcome to the forum, Nick.

Yeah, this is as close as I've seen to black chrome. Absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you. :)

This finish is amazing. I've been a die-hard stainless fan my whole life, but this just takes the cake...I even emailed VZ Grips to see what the odds are of getting something similar made... :D

Nick,
These stocks at some point will be available through Yost-Bonitz. This gun was built for the Shot Show and not necessarily a package gun with the shop but not unlike alot of the guns we do. The finish and the stocks are the unique items on this gun.

Very cool! Anthony Lombardo was the first Knife scribe to see anything in me, way back when. Im more than happy to see him mixing it up with us now.. Thanks so much for the kind words, I have a great time working with this LTW crew!!! Even if the project needs to be done 3 weeks ago!!!

Take Care

Wow. Just Wow.

I love it. I am a fan of the darker finishes. I still love my SS TRP though.

I have been looking at Carbon Creations for the cf grips, but these are amazing. When will such a product be available?

Old Skool, I have to agree. Those stocks are awesome. I have one set, and am waiting to be able to purchase more. That gun and knife combo is simply breathtaking. Great work by all involved!

I'd be interested to know as well. Both the gun and the grips look great!

We will have some additional stocks made if the requests are there. We have had various versions made including smooth and another of VZ's more aggressive patterns.

Not a group buy. It's a case of an expensive, hard to get material and the coordination with a vendor's production schedule to have it processed.

I really like the simplicy of that gun. Simple and effective. The grips are nice, too, but I think I'd prefer them on a stainless gun. Just my take. Well done, fellas.

How can we visibly generate the necessary requests in order to get a relatively accurate price/production date specified?

If this is a one-time thing I'd be interested in a set as well...

At this point, you can't. It's not like trying to buy magazines from a magazine manufacturer. And in addition, it's not a priority project for our shop. We do not even know right now whether we can get more material, or how much may be available. Having 50 requests and enough material for 10 sets doesn't cut it.

If and when we have sets available, LTW members will be the first to know.
