Man, even though these guys are my buddies, it is hard to post anything but my best work here!
By 'best' I mean a full-blown, full-house custom. Well I'll show a few pics of a recently completed pair of Kimbers. Original NW guns. No external extractors or firing pin safeties.
Not 'full house' by any means.
But serious use guns by most standards.

Might be a Kimber but it is easily the nicest set of Kimbers I have ever seen. You certainly did these up nice Chuck.

Those are some very nice looking Kimbers. Not too fancy but the workmanship is evident!

Chuck,

Very fine work as usual. Did you GunKote these? Please list mods if you don't mind.

Regards,
Aubrey

Thank God it's not a full house; you might have needed two pages to list the mods then

Nicely done, as always, Chuck.

Chuck,

Please elaborate on the functional merit of this mod (e.g., does it prevent holster damage, improve purchase during pinch checks...)

Thanks!
Aubrey

Wow! I never thought highly of using a Kimber as a base for a full custom job (mainly because I hate the rollmark on the left side of the slide and the wide serrations) but it looks like Chuck can make a materpiece out of anything! NICE.

Very nice! I had a pair of similarily set up Kimbers in the same ser# range. I had to have a local smith work on slide stop problems on both. He wound up fitting .38 Super slide stops and they worked perfectly. Did you encounter anything like this?

Chuck,

I'm going to have to go along with the rest of the crowd and say, "You make me want a Kimber." Actually, the original (non-Series II) Kimbers do kind of draw me in. When they came out, at least from the few I saw about 8 - 10 years ago, they were very well put together when compared to other 1911s. Some people shy away from them because of the use of "lesser grade" components, and others because of the large slide markings, but I think they make great utility guns. I'm sure your version makes them great anything guns. Thanks for sharing.

Some Kimbers have issues with the magewell broach location and this can cause failures to lock back. I have only seen this on the early generation guns.

I had a Jardine custom on a Kimber that would only lock back on 7rd Metalform mags and then only sporadically. A fitted .38 stop cured it.
