Has anyone tried to remove the SA Armory Kote? Figured since it is baked on, the finish could be bead blasted off? Or is it dipped a special solvent for removal? Can it even be removed at all?

Ideas?

Thanks

Will

You'll have to blast it. I'm pretty sure any solvent that can be had through normal channels won't take it off, thought you might try some MEK if you can get it.

Will,
All of the baked on resins that I've had experience with are pretty impervious to solvents, after the resin is cured. A long soak in MEK might work, but a blast is the sure thing.

Thanks Ned and Stalker for your replies.

Ned, what steps do you take in order to strip the finish yet still maintain
the rollmarkings and serial numbers?

Just blast it with something fine and not aggressive, like fine glass beads as opposed to coarse aluminum oxide.

I just finished an aluminum framed (Scandium) S&W with a baked on finish. I used a 70/30 mix of glass beads and aluminum oxide in the blast cabinet. Came right off. Too bad the "Gun may fire with magazine removed" would not come off.
