Just trying some things with the camera in preparation for LTW #2. This is a gun recently finished in the shop. In years past I sort of thought of Commanders as an oddball configuration. Not that my opinion means alot but the Commander setup might be the perfect carry gun. No need to change magazines from your full size, little less off the slide for ease of concealment and the recoil snaps back rather well.

A Commander in stainless certainly helps with corrosion, and coupled with black linen micarta grips, you have a sturdy set up that would hold up with alot of use. Cleaning up a stainless gun is pretty simple and they don't look to bad either. The ivory grips on a stainless Colt is one of my personal favorites. Under Custom Guns here you can see a gun Mike O'Hara just finished which is an outstanding looking 1911. I think it is interesting how modifications have developed and what is possible with this platform in a good shop. The Browning style cuts Mike made changes the appearance slightly but good looking nonetheless. The subtle differences is what makes the various guns intersting. The use of age old materials like ivory vs. G-10 or micarta is giving the smiths and the end user/customer a great deal of ideas for their personal gun.
Hope you enjoy the shots.

Ted did a very cool high cut with this considering it was one of those XS frames with the machine cut at the top of the frontsrap.

Steve - very nice, especially the flush / recessed crown. :D

This is pretty close to what I'm looking for for my matched set of carry pistols for my wife and me.

Jeff,
Thank you and looking forward to speaking with you. Give me a call anytime. The Commanders will be a fun build in the shop.
Steve

OUTSTANDING Steve

I got a chance to see this pistola in the shop before and during the time that Steve worked on it. The XSE cut on the front strap looked horrible, but it was sure a lot of fun to see how Ted transformed it.

Looks like it has turned into quite a nice blaster.

Thanks for sharing! 8)

Very nice work Steve, I'm really beginning to like the Commander platform myself.

Sweet job. Looks very custom! Micarta is my favorite grip material for a working gun. I think they look cool too. Nice work!!! :D

Cecil B. DeBailey - You've got a hell of an eye for setting up a nice picture and then freezing it in time. 8)

Oh, and did I mention that I really like the pistol, too?

Outstanding gun and beautiful work as always Steve!!! That gun is so nice I could actually start liking those "little" 1911s.

Steve's more than gone near it. The serrations on this gun were done by Micah, coached by Steve. We have a system here - Watch one, do one, teach one (well, sometimes more than one - depends on the student!). Ray did the flat-top and serrate, also coached by Steve. Steve cut the Heinies in, coached by the old blind guy  Steve's still a little apprehensive, and very cautious, but hey - it ain't a race, although the winner is the guy with ten fingers and a paycheck at the end of the day.

Great looking work. I imagine the gun is a tack driver. In my case the gun would be the tack driver of course but the operator would need some work or a new prescription. :D

Actually it is quite a tack driver. I was fortunate enough to get to shoot with Steve a few weeks ago, and the Colt shot well. Now the operator could use some work
