During the past year I have had the chance to build a few pistols at the Yost-Bonitz shop. Between work, college, and family it is hard to find the time to work on anything, but the finished product is always worth it. Not to mention, it is a blast hanging out with Ted and the gang.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for the work that goes on at the Yost-Bonitz shop. There are few places anywhere that you can find such attention to detail and quality work. I am amazed every time I look at one of Ted's guns, and have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to see the painstaking step by step process it takes to build such a high quality 1911. Until I had the chance to build a custom 1911, I had no idea how much time, effort, and precision it took. I can only hope to aspire to that kind of skill and craftsmanship. Each day I spend in the shop reminds of just how much I still have to learn, which is quite a lot.
Under Ted's direction, and with a lot of help from everyone in the shop, I managed to finish a Caspian stainless commander that turned out pretty well.

Here are a few pictures.

Thanks again to the Yost-Bonitz Shop for letting me be a part of the group and teaching me how to build a 1911. Hopefully there will be many more to come!

Zack, I'm jealous!! That is an great opportunity you have. Working and learning from the best in the business is awesome ! The YOBO guys would be in deep trouble if they had their shop here in Vegas. Also, I can tell that you have the right attitude - positive, eyes and ears open, mouth shut ready to listen and learn. I'm sure we will be seeing more nice 1911's from you in the future.

Oh yeah - damn nice gun!

A little luck and persistence. Definitely had to earn my keep and convince Ted to let me stick around. I spent a lot of time cleaning the shop bathroom.

The lock-up on it is really tight and it shoots dead on.
Definitely a keeper!

Zack,

Congrats on a great looking pistol and, more importantly, on putting the time in doing some less than desirable tasks in order to learn. My hope is that my current project, which is along the same lines, will turn out as well.

Great attention to detail, especially the beavertail grip safety. It is fitted perfectly. Well done,
Lenny

Zack did indeed do a great job on this one. He's a patient, caring individual, who wants nothing more than to learn how to do things right.

Lenny mentioned the gripsafety fit - some may not know that Caspians require welding to properly accept a Brown gripsafety. Zack had a little help with the weld, but none with the cleanup and fitting of the gripsafety. It took some time, but it's just what he wanted, and beautifully done.

Zack, if that whole making a good living, having a nice clean, cushy job thing doesn't work out... You can join our crew anytime

Be proud of this one Zack, and remember - everyone's FIRST checkering job is perfect. You'll checker a Buick before you see another one

Could not find checkered Buicks on the Yo-Bo sight.

Are they 25 LPI or 30 LPI?

Lead time?

Sorry, I couldnt resist.

Very nicely done, Mr. Dees
