My son BJ's Nowlin 5" 9mm Crusader set up for distinguished match. Gun started by John Nowlin Sr. Finished by Terry Boler. Terry is the smith currently building Nowlins. As you can see I managed to grab it after a trip to the range. Liberal application of sight black makes appear dirtier than it is.

Wow, looks great!

Tell us about that rear sight, if you please!

The sights are 2 peice Aristocrat. The rear has 3 preset positions for sight in at different distances. Back in my PPC days we sighted in X ring at 7 and 25, neck hold at 50.

The few Nowlins I've seen have been very nice. I continue to get great groups from their barrels!

They are one of the few I have seen that do not crown their barrels. Apparently it doesnt hurt accuracy as my son advises it is superbly accurate.

I have been the lucky owner of 3 Nowlins. My first was a single stack Crusader in .45acp, with hardchromed frame, checkerd front strap and ambi's.

This gun saw lots of use in IDPA matches and was my carry gun

I also had built a STI framed Nowlin Crusader in .40s&w with standard bushing barrel and 3x port comp barrel. It was the most accurate gun I have ever owned, shooting quarter size one hole 5 shot groups.

Things happen, finances get tight and things get sold, both of these guns got sold. But shortly after that I got a phone call from Jack Ostendorf, the then general manager there, wanting to know why I had sold the guns, and if everything was alright. The person that bought them had contacted Jack and that was how he found out. Jack and I started talking about what I thought was the perfect 1911 and here is what we ended up with.

This gun was built by John Nowlin Sr, Terry and Garth Peterson (he fitted the barrel). It is a true one of a kind Nowlin in that the barrel is crowned flush, it only has the Nowlin rollmark on the slide, it has all the features of their Match Master pistol, S&A fitted magwell, ambis, adjustable night sights (which now only the front sight has the tubes in it), but has only rear serrations.

You might notice the rear sight blade had the dash bars in it. I broke that blade off in a match and had the sight replaced with just a plain rear blade.
I have had this gun since August 2002 and it has been a carry gun, IDPA match gun and USPSA Limited 10 gun.
Since then I have finished:

Here is the link to my webshots homepage, the guns are on there mixed in with lots of other stuff.

Anyway long story short, Nowlin makes a hell of a 1911, great price, great service, and are some of the most accurate, and reliable 1911's out there.
