After seeing the recent posts about David Clements work, I decided to dig out this pic of my 5 Shot Bisley Conversion in 45 Colt. In additon to converting it into a 5 Shot Monster, I had David install a Bowen Rear Sight, Gold Bar Front Sight and had the ejector stud dove tailed into the barrel.

I had Robert Applegate make me several custom molds for it in 300, 325 & 355 grain LBT style bullets. The 355 grain slugs (pictured) will head down range at over 1400 fps. Quite enough for most anything on this continent. It is also very accurate, with 25 yard groups with open sights around 2".

Hi John.
Just saw this post. I just do love those Bisley 45 convertions, just got my new SS Bisley frame kit last week but still short of time to finishing the fitting to my hunting parner ex SBH. now im looking to change the factory cylinder for a 5 shot cylinder, and the instructions to closing the cylinder gap. It is a bit complicated for me been so distant.
Now im studing the posibility to buy a new custom ssBisley in 45 or 475. from one of the Rev mastercrafters. so will keep it ready for when one of those wonderful hunting trips with some good friends arise there.
But it is really hard to get decide, course it is much more simple than get decide on what 1911 to choose from the 1911 masters around here!!!´

Btw: can you send me, or post a couple more pic of that beauty, and how did you dovetailed the ejector stud??? thanks.

Alex,

I will take some more pictures and post them in the next day or so. I will take off the ejector so that you can see the stud. This was done rather than putting the barrel band on the front to support the ejector durring heavy recoil. Without it the screws tend to shear right off.

I was able to find a SS Bisley from the Accusport run last year, so it is sitting in the safe while I decide what to do with it. I really want a 475, but the expense of bullet molds, dies, cases, etc. would be a large investment. I will probably have it made into a 45 Nimrod by Hamilton Bowen.

Lucky John, haha.
How much did you paid for that one?
I´m also looking for another SS Bisley in 45 to perform a small custom package #2 by Bowen almost stock but there´s no rush im waiting for one of them to get in to my friend´s shop at really good price, so he will buy it and keep it for me.
Just to make an idea...how much will be the 475 investment, i think is not much than $220, or im wrong: $95 for the Dies, $100 for 250 Starline brass pack, and I have no idea about the moulds ? I just saw Lee selling a 325grGC and 400gr D/ moulds at $25.
Have you shot one 475???

Alex.

When shooting that size grip, how do you prevent the trigger guard from battering your middle finger, especially when you drive the bullet that fast?

I have never had a problem with it, although I don't have really big hands. It doesn't roll in your hand like a traditional single action grip, and that may have something to do with it.
