Here's a look at the pistol I built for the Single Stack Classic
Link to the 1911 Society here: http://www.1911society.org

The base pistol is a Springfield NM frame slide kit with KART forged chromeoly barrel, built into MARS Spartan configuration with a few added cosmetic "niceties".

The slide was flattened (as was the slide stop), a border machined on the shoulder, and the bottom of the slide beveled.
The rear of the slide was blended to the frame and hand serrated @ 40lpi to match the Heinie rear sight.

About 15 years ago I saw a pistol built by Mr Heinie with a satin stainless beavertail on a black frame and really liked the look of it. Inspired by his work, I made the barrel, bushing and safety matte silver, just to be a little different than my normal "all black". An added plus is those are high wear areas, the matte silver will wear better over time.

Thanks to my buddies Ned and Chuck for technical help and moral support in the machining calculations for the dimples. 8)

All the work was done by me, in house.
Finish is milspec parkerizing on extra fine glass bead preparation.

Great looking gun. Where did you get the front strap treatment. I like it and have a GI I won at the SSC that I might like to have that done to.

He said all work was done by him in house. Great looking blaster, you have a good eye for detail.

Very nice clean looking work Steve. Looks like a heavy duty setup.

Very nice work, sir!

I am curious, you state the finish is milspec parkerizing over beadblast. It appears to be a fairly light matte grey color. I am used to seeing parkerizing as a matte black or very dark grey. Is this just the way the pictures make the pistol look or is it really a light grey color?

I got eyes-on this one at the SSC too and it looked great.

Here's the truth about prize guns. Sometimes they are not all-out efforts, since they are being done at no charge. Can't blame a guy for that..... but SSC prize guns have really been great the last couple years, this MARS gun being no exception.

I don't think Steve needs an intro here, but on the other hand, some people might not know too much about him since he stays a bit in the background, by choice. In short he's there doing this stuff and doing it well for a lot of people who I think are using the guns quite a bit. He's a deep thinker and not a loud talker, and has some great ideas.

Hi bdavis-
I did the machining on the front strap in my shop using a Bridgeport mill and a special fixture made in house.

There were several influences- obviusly a golf ball, a pistol built by Mark Hartshorne about 5-6 years ago, the Simonich Gunner grips, and the work of Chuck Rogers. This is the second gun I have golf balled, the first was done last year for a special project.

John-
Some of the color is the photo, some of it is the parkerizing, the color of which can vary quite a bit from batch to batch. This pistol actually has a bit of a 2 tone look to it in person- the slide is a shade darker than the frame due to the difference in hardness.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, I do appreciate it.
