I saw one of these in the latest American COP magazine. Please tell me more about it. What's it made out of? What holsters will it fit in? Do I have to refinish the frame? Does Safariland make holsters that will work with it and an X200 attatched? Does it majorly effect the handling of the gun?

It might be best to call the shop and discuss your questions with them.

I'll help as much as I can. I carry the Yost-Bonitz rails/adapters, and sights. The rails are available in carbon, stainless, and aluminum. I have easily been able to "block out" several Milt Sparks holsters to fit my 1911s with the new rail installed. When installed, generally, there is no need for the gun to be refinished. Safariland does make a holster to be used with light installed (6004-536-121). I notice no difference in handling.

I hope this helps.

Is this rail detachable or is it a permanent modification?

Why on Earth would anyone want to remove it? It is a performance enhancing modification, and should be considered permanent. That isn't to say that it cannot be undone, but why? Think vasectomy...either you want it, or you don't!

Dr. Wang rolls in with the medical humor...........this place is doomed for sure. :P I for one make a very distinct parallel between permanent removals on both ends.
