Figured this would be THE place to ask . . . so here goes: I've always been somewhat infatuated with SVI's Tiki model. Love the whole nine yards. Is there any 'smith out there who is willing/able to perform a similar integrated sight system? Their version features a four-point picture, while I have a three-point set-up in mind. If so, what kind of base components would be required? Specfically, what kind of slide and tritium inserts? After hearing some quotes from SVI ~ $10k, I've just got to believe that someone out there could make a similar pistol for quite a bit less. But, it's the sight system that sets this apart and what makes the Tiki what it is.

Not that this helps but, there was a 'smith doing the three point set up on Glocks a while back. I'll see if I can find the magazine I saw it in and find out who it was if no one else knows.

Actually, I've yet to see the movie. I've liked this since '04 when it was first introduced. It's the most unique 1911-styled pistol I've seen.

the TiKi is one of the stars of the new movie, FYI.

The gunsmith who does similar conversions in TX is David R. Clay

David Clay (817)-783-6099 (10am-5pm Mon-Fri)
DRC Armaments
4201 E. Renfro Rd.
Alvarado, TX 76009

He does a conversion called the channel sight that is a 3 point sight.

It would probably be wise to start off with a "bald" slide for this type of job.

I've always thought the Tiki was cool too and keep hoping I'll get commissioned to do something similar some day. It won't go $10K but it won't be cheap, either. And of course maybe there are a few things about the original that I don't know. I have always figured the only one in existence was the one in the SVI info-- sorta like a concept gun. I saw MV but did not spot the Tiki, shame on me!

Yeah, I agree. In fact, I was thinking about a "bare" (Caspian terminology - no sight cuts and no cocking serrations) slide. If I ever decided to proceed with something like this, I'd like to make the finished pistol uniquely my own. But, I would definitely use the Tiki for inspiration. By the way, is the frame's dustcover extended to meet the slide or is the slide a shorter model set-up to fit a standard frame?

From Infinity's web site:
Quote:
The dust cover of the frame is extended to the end of the slide giving the pistol a full-bodied look that has been the trademark of Infinity pistols in the competition circuit for the past three yearsFrom

any pics of what the sight picture looks like? Is it similar to the one on the old ASP pistols?

While I don't think $10k is reasonable for a handgun, not for me anyway, keep in mind the Tiki is essentially a handbuilt custom gun made mostly from Titanium. I have seen Yost 1911s go for $4000 to $5000 and I think they are worth what the owner paid. Now do it all from Titanium and make all of the Ti parts in house. When they introduced it the price was $6000 and that was well before 2004. My first woddy from the Tiki was around 2000.

It has also been mentioned by some that perhaps the Tiki was to show what could be done but not "intended" for sale. But since they sell guns that they build it had to have a price and $10k will scare away most tire kickers. There is someone that posted on The High Road that he has one and is having problems with it. For $10k I would be pissed.

It really is an innovative little gun and I would like to have one, but only if I don't have to pay for it :)

That is a very interesting sighting system. I would have to shoot one to determine if I would like it or not. 10K.....wow!!! I understand all that has gone into the development and manufacturing of this gun, but 10K???

You're looking at 10k for the titanium version. Last I heard, the stainless steel model runs about 4K.

The director of the movie; Michael Mann sure knows his guns! Take a look at Collateral or better yet, Heat. Has anybody here ever ran into him shooting?
