For the last couple of weeks the forums have been very slow for me. Each page takes 3-4 minutes to load. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is anyone looking into it?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

You are the first to make note of an issue. Can you give me specifics? Time of incident? Your local ip address? A traceroute?

Can you get to http://www.yost-bonitz.com? Or http://www.yost-bonitz.com/services/?

Any information you can provide will be helpful.

I can get to the two yost-bonitz sites quite quickly.

Can't seem to tracert to you.

I have tried this on four networks now, and three machines...

All the networks are on the west coast (PNW).

Odd that I am the only one.

Thanks!

The yost-bonitz pages are on the same server. Traceroute won't work. It gets dropped at the server.

Don't know what to tell you at this point.

LTW has been consistently annoyingly slow for me for quite some time.
Currently 7:00 pm in metro Denver Sunday 3 September using a Comcast cable connection showing a full speed connection to the internet. LTW has been very slow for quite some time - weeks if not months. I have not found the various individual sites slow - current Yost-Bonitz is adequately snappy as are all of the links from the LTW splash page. LTW shows 8 users. I'll experiment with browsing logged in and not logged in later. I haven't tried LTW with a clean cache and with a loaded cache but again LTW is always much slower than other sites with comparable pictures and graphics.

I don't regularly hit any other site that is nearly so slow as LTW. Hilton Yam's forum or Pistolsmith.com or the Highroad or the Firing Line are all reasonably fast. When I check LTW I always have an alternate to browse while loading new pages in LTW - tonight it's back issues of Jeff Cooper's Commentaries. The alternate is invariably much faster than LTW.

I hadn't mentioned anything because I had assumed LTW was hosted on somebody's shop/office computer with perhaps a slow connection out of the shop and some cycles stolen by shop use. I gather not so?

I'll try some of the suggested diagnostics later.

For what it's worth LTW loads very quickly for me in AZ.

FWIW, the site is fast as always in Eastern Colorado. I'm on a rural telephone company DSL line which connects to the Qwest backbone in Denver. Only a couple of significant hops between here and there.

Chris,
Try blowing out your internet cache files if you haven't done that in a long time. You may also want to simply do some routine maintenance on your machine after you clean up your cached files, defrag the drive. Those two things alone can help speed a well-used machine up by leeps and bounds.
Cheers,

Defrag runs daily.
Already blown away all cookies
Already blown away all temporary files

Switched to FireFox and all is well on this forum now. All other locations work fine in IE however. Have a workaround until I repave for now.
