It seems over the past couple of years there has been a slight trend towards "tactical" 1911's. Aren't they all tactical if tactics are applied? It seems that in this catagory of pistols they have to be black and dangerous.

I have noticed when these guns are built they tend to lack a some detail work. Why is that? Why wouldn't the user want all the detail and workmanship the smith can put into it if in fact he is going to use it to defend himself.

Strangely enough the guns we build for SF guys, SWAT officers, and other members of military, or known in some ciricles as real deal guys are never the blasted black variety. One told me why would I want a gun like that when I am forced to carry one like that at work? These guys usually want a detailed out, beautifully done carry set up. Something that deviates what they use at work. Sort of like if you drive a Taxi all day...you wouldn't buy a Taxi to drive as your personal vehicle would you?

Anyway, Jason did this gun as a gift to a friend of his who just happens to be a Special Forces operator. This was a total surprise and this gentleman just happened to leave to Afghanistan for his third or fourth time. He is a class act and a hard core soldier. He is lucky to be carrying such a gun.

Jason you have outdone yourself on this one. A finely detailed "operator's carry gun" I hate the word tactical so I will refrain from using it any longer.

Well, it gets two thumbs up from a "used to be tactical, old, fat, former SWAT guy".

Absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't hesitate carrying that beauty on duty with me (10-8 for those that prefer the 10 code). Excellent job Jason; each one is looking better and better!! You'd think you'd been doing this for many years now!

That is a beautifully executed pistol Jason! I can defintely see why the people here are willing to wait to have work done at YoBo. Now I'm gonna have to get something to send in to have done there. Keep up the awesome work and attention to detail.

Jason,
Is that the Boron DLC finish you were telling me about?

Truly a gorgeous pistol, Mr. Burton.

But what I really like is the photography. The photos could have been taken under bright lights, but instead, Steve was able to suggest twilight or the light of early dawn. Nice pics. :D

Thanks for the kind words guys and big thanks to my pal Steve for the great pictures. Over the last few years Steve has gotten really good with the camera… no more like phenomenal! I used to think that I took okay pictures but now I look at mine and wonder what I‘m doing wrong. One of the neat things about these photos is the ‘tone’ of them. The pictures are indeed in color but the way Steve did the lighting and the props we set with the gun really give that “business like” look to all it. The pictures certainly suit the premise behind the gun.

The build of this gun was probably one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. The gentleman I built this for has been a good friend and shooting partner for a number of years and over his extensive career he has sacrificed and given more than most of us can imagine. I knew what he liked in a pistol and how he liked them configured… 20lpi front and back, arched MSH, a high visibility front sight, and of course dead nuts accurate and reliable, the rest was up to me. I thought about adding a light rail but knew that this gun would spend most of its time concealed in an Alessi CQC and a gun-mounted light isn’t really his style anyway.

As for the finish it’s good ol’ bluing. I was going to have the gun coated in DLC but ended up not having enough time and I wanted to insure the gun made it to its new owner before he left yet again. The environment he’ll be in would have been a good endurance test for the DLC finish but it will have to wait until at least the next trip. And, despite what some would have you believe, the bluing will hold until then and in reality much longer. His last trip over he toted a blued 1911 and it’s no worse off except for more finish wear.

Dude,

Good work on the BT, that's the first thing I look at. I think you've got more guns under your belt now than some of the so called experts on the internet that have a five year waiting list.

Jason,

I'm rather stingy about compliments, but this is really clean. Nice job, Jason. I would pay top dollar for your work.
