Just wanted to ask some opinions on doing this. I normally carry my 5" 1911 in either a MS VMII or SSII... but I'd like to pick up an Alessi PCH (among other fine makers)

My problem is I really don't have enough extra cash these days to buy a holster for my Commander and my Full-size since I primarily carry my 5". I'd like to carry my 9x23 Nowlin Commander but wanted to get the downfalls (if any) on carrying that in a holster designed for a fullsize.

Your opinions are much appreciated.

I carried a 3" bbl Kimber Ultra and a 4" bbl Springfield Compact in a full sized Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 with very good results. The SS2 is a pretty flexible holster, not hard boned like my Alessi PCH, and there wasn't any damage caused by the holster collapsing. With an Alessi PCH, the body of the holster is a very stiff hand boned shape and I could see putting a short gun in a full sized holster might deform and collapse the beautiful shape that Lou spends so much time forming. Your VMII is hand formed and I might call Tony Kanaley at Milt Sparks before I put a shorter gun in that holster, but I can tell you that no ill effect will be had by doing it to the SSII

I have an Alessi PCH designed to fit a 5 inch 1911. In it I mostly carry a lightweight Commander and notice absolutely no difference other than the LWC weighs a lot less at the end of the day. Can't speak to the other holsters you mentioned, but have never spoken to anyone who carries a PCH that was disappointed in any way. It's an excellent carry holster.

Spoke to Lou about this myself and his answer was as long as you don't go around bumping into things that the holster should be fine whether OWB or IWB!

I always use a full-sized holster for IWB even if I'm not carrying a full-sized gun. On me, the shorter barrels combined with a short holster will find a nerve on my right hip and drive me crazy.

One day, I carried a Detonics mini-gun in a Davis IWB that I cut down to fit the pistol. I walked around Disney World in pain all all day and had to duck in the men’s' room several times to move the holster to different parts of my waistband.

For OWB carry, I try to use the right sized holster, but it's more of an obsession than a necessity.

I carry a Glock 19 in an Alessi Watch Six Talon that was made for a Walther P99....I have also taken the clips off and cut slits making it a pancake belt holster. It's ghetto as hell, but MAN is it comfy.

Don't tell Lou though

You're right I probably deserve it. I was going to post up a pic, but I will save you all from the nightmares that would surely follow.

You colud have at least told a little white one and said you cut up a factory rig. I've "adjusted" factory leather quite a few times. Don't know if I'd have the nerve to cut up the good stuff.
