Are there any true revolversmiths left out there? Guys like Ron Power that specialized only on revolvers? No slight to anyone that works on both, just curious.

There are a few. Hamilton Bowen, John Linebaugh and Dave Clements come to mind (and there are a few others as well).

Mr. Berryhill is being a little modest. He does nice work on revolvers. I have seen one or two and they were nicely done. By the way, how are you Dave?

Hiya Steve - I'm doing well. Just the usual struggle of running a 1-man shop - too many things to do that take time away from working on guns.

...........also I can attest to the super level of skill that Don Williams (ActionWorks) exhibits on his revolver work. Does he work on revolvers exclusively? I should say not, as his work on semi-autos is great also. He has worked on both for me, and the man is a true craftsman and a super gentleman. Prices are quite reasonable too!!

By the way, don't anyone let Don read this........ I don't want him raising prices and/or getting a big head.

Best to all,
Jeffro (Jeff)

AND REMEMBER, don't let Don see this post!!!!!!

The original poster was asking about 'smiths that work exclusively on revolvers.

I am aware of that............... Just thought he might like the feedback anyway.............. Didn't feel that sharing the info. would cause any harm.

Thanks for the heads up Jeffro!!!
I just got off the phone with Don.
I decided that since I have a Mil-Spec at Ted's I may as well keep my custom pistol projects in the L.T.W. family :) .
I am shipping my S&W 325PD to Don to get hammer bobbed/D.A.O,
action job, and sight replacement. This piece does duty for camping/canoing adventures when a light weight full caliber revolver is needed. I am sure that when finished it will only be sweeter!!!

Im not insinuating that some of you guys dont work hard, but when I was young, along time ago I worked a 12 hour day on at least 10 or 15 types of pistols and revolvers and also setup at about 25 pistol matches a year doing smithing behind the line. This included the Natls at Camp Perry for 18 days or so. In my spare time I designed and patd many items we see in use today. I had more success working alone. As soon as I began hireing my problems began. Im getting a bunch of pics on to show you guys how many different pistols Ive worked on. This was also in the days before Brownells cat showed quantities of everything you needed and you had to make everything or do without. Any way keep up the great work.

I have a Ruger Redhawk from Hamilton Bowen and a Bisley Blackhawk from Jim Stroh at Alpha Precision. I know you asked about "revolver only", but Mr. Stroh merits the mention (he does autos too). I have another Bisley at David Clements, and am pretty excited about seeing his work. I can vouch for Messr's Bowen and Stroh...they are artists and gentlemen.

Andy Cannon:

Andy Cannon
P.O. Box 1026, Polson, MT 59860; Ph/FAX (406) 887-2048
Smith & Wesson revolver specialist; street and duty tunes, competition PPC and NRA Action guns; home of the Ayoob-Cannon Street custom S&W L-frame.

I would use him only for S&W though. I shot my first perfect Bonus qualification with an Andy Cannon 686. A 300 with 26xs

Also not a dedicated wheelgun 'smith, but fine work nonetheless from Karl Sokol, Chestnut
Mountain Sports (802)438-5732.

I sure wish I had kept my FFL but when I retired 7 years ago I let it go. During my life and career Im sure I did many thousands of revolver tunes and ribs etc. I remember setting up at a police BE match and doing as many as 30 action jobs in a two day match. I could do them with my eyes closed. Its a shame that revolversmiths are a dieing breed as revolvers

are so much fun to work on. Im sure there are many shooters looking for this type work

Austin,

If you find an FFL willing to take shipment for you, I am sure I can find something in a shop to send you.

It would have to have your sights though.

Two that I do not see on the list are Doug Turnbull and Magnaport. I have seen very nice work by them along with the afore mentioned smiths. Regards, Richard :D

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned John Gallagher out of Jasper, AL. He has been doing work for me for over 10 years but is only now getting recognized in the gun magazines for being a true artist. His specialty is single action work but the actions he has put on some double action target revolvers is truely wonderful.

Alan Harton in Houston specializes in SA work but will also fiddle with DA's. Here's a a 44 Special he did for me on the left with a Bowen 44 Special on the right.

And a 41 Special built on the Old Model Single Six platform.

Image He's has done other simpler jobs for me as well but these two really show his capability.

I ran across this gentleman this morning, Grant Cunningham, add a .com to his name for his web site. He says he is a revolversmith only and works on Ruger, Dan Wesson, S&W and Colts only. (No Taurus). I don't know anything about him except for what I just read on his site. Looks like I'm picking up a Ruger GP100 in a trade next week and was cruising the Ruger forum site and someone had just got thier gun back from him. I liked the look.

Just my .02 Bob Jones is a great revolver hand my personal 64 bbl is listed under competition customs. Also the guys at the smith performance center Jimmy Rey's crew are really good. I have had guns worked on by both of the above with great results on double action Smith's.
