Just finished a matching pair of stainless customs and thought I'd post a few pics.

These started life as (oversize) Baer frames & slides - one Government length and one Commander.

The gentleman that commissioned me to build them has been most excellent to work with and granted me a lot of latitude in just how I wanted to do this set. Enjoy, Tom! It's been fun!

Nice indeed. And based on a pair of Les Baers, too.

So, Tim, does this mean there are only four in front of mine? :D Very nice, by the way. I can hardly wait.

Speaking of "all kinds of details", how about the finish on the slide bevels?

As always every treatment is precise with a well defined point of beginning and ending.

Thanks for the photos and congratulations to the owner.

Tim, the Twins arrived safely this afternoon. They are even more magnificent in person than in the pics.

I had orginally asked Tim to build me a Commander. I knew at that time that I would eventually want him to also build me a full size pistol. Then it occurred to me why not build them both at the same time. That way I won't have the wait in between. Then we decided to make them identical and so the idea of twins was born.

When I got the email from Tim that the Twins were on the bench, we talked some more about what I wanted done. There were a couple things I definitely wanted and there were others where Tim said, why don't you let me play with it. As the build went on, Tim would email and ask what I thought about certain things. At the end of the email, he would often put "Isn't this fun?"

Well, it's been great fun!! The Twins evolved along the way in manner that just flowed. An organic process. I never imagined that it would happen that way.

Tim said in the recent American Handgunner article that he thought that handbuilding 1911s was becoming a dying art. I totally agree. I think we are lucky to have Tim and the other master smiths of this website. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes increasingly harder to find men of this talent in another generation.

Thanks, Tim.

Tom

Those guns are stunning! I really like everything about them and wonder if you could share with me where you got those great triggers. I want one just like that.

Fantastic! You gentlemen are destroying my long held prejudices. Before joining this forum, I didn't like stainless guns at all. However, I would pay big bucks for those.

I have found 20LPI to be too cource and 30 to be too fine. 25 is ideal I think.
What about those short, over travel adjustable triggers? I want one.

Moggie, I agree with Marsh. I think that 20 lpi is too coarse and 30 is a little to fine.

Marsh, I don't know where Tim got the short trigger. I had requested a short trigger and left it to him to find the best one. If you look closely you can see that the trigger is bead blasted. I don't believe it came that way and that Tim did it, but we'll have to ask him to be sure.
