This is the latest full-custom off my bench. It started out as a bone-stock Springfield Armory GI, 2006 production. Its owner wanted it to have all the good parts, wrapped up in a durable no-nonsense finish. What we were after was a very matte finish that was almost tactile in and of itself. I contacted one of the local spray-n-bake finishers and his response was “Yeah, I can do that!” Sooo, we used Cerakote in a matte black color over a very aggressive aluminum oxide blasting. It might not be for everyone, but the owner is thrilled. It’s a bit of a departure from what is normally seen on a 1911.

On the inside, it has EGW and Ed Brown ignition parts amongst components from Yost-Bonitz, Smith and Alexander, Kart, and a host of other manufacturers. Complete specs and a few more pictures are on my website. Enough chatter, and thanks for looking!

would that highly textured finish affect draw speed in leather?

I happen to own one of Dave's works, and this is another example of Dave fulfilling the customer's wishes to a "T". Everything seen on this gun was to the cusotmer's exact specs. The attention to detail here is terrific. Take a close look at the hand filed serrations on the bottom of the slide lock, and the way that the reverse side of the slide lock was flattened off even with the side of the frame. Nice job Dave!!!

Wow ! that is a really, really nice piece of work, love how at first glance it looks very simple, perhaps even plain, but then you see all those very well executed details.

Gents,

Thanks for the kind words. I have been getting a lot of comments on the finish, both on and off the boards. This application of Cerakote turned out more textured than others I have either seen or handled, and that was by design. The draw speed from leather isn't affected, even with the texture. Now if it had front cocking ...

OK, OK, OK !!! I won't go down that road. Please don't ban me! I love it here!

The owner is ecstatic, and calls me about every 15 minutes to tell me so and to point out his "new" favorite feature or detail. That's what this craft is all about.

My website was down for a few hours, so the pictures should be working again. If not, send me an email and I will get it remedied. Thanks again, and my best to all!

Yes the owner of the Springfield is very ecstatic about how this project ended. I can say that, because Dave customized the weapon exactly how I wanted it.

This is my first 1911 that I have been waiting for years to purchase. When it came time for me to finally purchase the bare bones version, I got a hold of Dave to make my dream come true. I could not be happier with how it came out and more importantly how it fires/groups down range on the target.

In fact when I went to pick it up the other day, I literally stopped breathing for around fifteen seconds and chances are my heart stopped beating too. I'm not one to pass praise very easily but I am very impressed with the craftsmanship and work that went into my new carry weapon. Thanks alot Dave!

WOW! that is a sweet pistol. When I first saw this I said to myself this is just about as perfect a carry gun as it gets.
Great pictures and a beautiful pistol.
Congratulations to the lucky owner.

Without a gun, that flag you're waving may as well be white!
