Remember those items from your youth that were so well made that they seemed to last forever? Like fine fishing reels, the family car, and the vintage collectibles that were important to the family? One of this years offerings for the LTW charities is just that.
A vintage Colt Commander done up in LTW fashion for the fine folks and beneficiaries of POSA COPS 4 KIDS. Last years campaign with the same group made a great showing at the Shot Show so there was absolutely no reason not to do it again.
This gun was donated to LTW for a charity and we can't thank those who have done that and will in the future enough. LTW 5 was built by Ted Yost, CT Brian, and John Harrison. It is simply one of the finest firearms you will see in this category. A fine carry gun with all the trimmings.
This set up reminds me of my grandfather carrying his old Colt .38 in his waistband, he always had a handkerchief, a case for his cigarettes, and always had the cool accessories. He in fact was a gentleman of the first order, but you knew if you ran your mouth he would close it for you.
So when we set out to design this one for POSA we figured we should get a hold of another gentleman in the industry Josh Bulman who is doing the finest leather work anywhere. We told him what we were looking for and he delivered BIG. Holster, matching mag pouch, and key fob. This leather work was done in a "honey shark" as Josh calls it. It is even better looking in person I guarantee you.
And if you want to top off a set up like this with a knife you call Jim Burke, also doing the best work of his career or anyone else's for that matter. I told him what the package was going to look like and he said "let me get something together" he did not disappoint. This knife is simply incredible.
This is the best part of anyone's job at LTW, creating opportunities for those less fortunate. But you folks are the ones that make this motor run. We throw the fastballs you hit them out of the park. Thanks again to all of you who support these efforts.
Now to the gun and gear!
You can never replace those old roll marks.
Hand cut checkering and handmade walnut stocks.
One of CT Brian trademark mods...a flat backed and serrated rear of slide done perfectly. The carry bevel sets it off nicely.
If you are going to put a beavertail on it you might as well do it right as John Harrison shows here.
High Power cuts and a beautifully done crown on the front of this shooting piece of art....as a friend of mine says.
A ghosted arrow pattern on the flat top accompanied by a Kart barrel.
Now for the good stuff, knives and leather. The work of Josh Bulman. This honey shark is unreal.
The knife by Jim Burke, only the finest stuff comes out of his shop.
