What could be better than a Pocket Hammerless in .45 ACP. That was the thought when I visited with Bill Laughridge several years ago. After a lot of hard work and hours of hand work, Bill introduced his .45 Pocket Model at SHOT 2007.

He stated with a Caspian Officers Model frame and a Commander length slide. He had to extend both the frame and slide at the rear to enclose the hammer. He also recut the radius on the top of the slide to the same angle as the original Colt model.

The pistol was the hit of the show. This is Bill's personal gun but he has since taken orders for several more.

Price, if you have to ask...........

Enjoy,

Rob

I really like it, and it seems like one of the rare guns where the grip safety makes sense.

Nice! Do you have a picture of the front end? Does it have a bull barrel?

That is very nice, I have two of the 1903's in .32acp and have used use one myself that was nickel plated. I have a couple of clients who also like the design.

Very function design from about 100 years ago and still being copied these days with some of the "modern" designs.

It's been quite some time since I've seen something that was truly unique in modern gunsmithing. This concept and the amazing execution really has me at a loss for words. So... WOW!

I tip my hat to C&S. Very very nice.

Now I remember that beauty... 8) I pass by and handle it at C&S at the Shot, tought I felt in love again.. its like the 32´s sister but with much, much more experience.
Worksmanship is really something on this gun.

Bill used a bull barrel and then sleeved the front end so it would have the same profile as the original. It looks even better with ivory but Bill wanted to display it with wood stocks at SHOT.

The video where Michael is interviewing Bill at SHOT is great. Classic Michael. Thank Jim for the link.

Update: C&S is hoping to have a limited number of frames and slides made to this configuration. This will reduce both the amount of custom work and price. Stay tuned for more..........

Matt,

Bad news for me too! I don't think my bank account could stand it and I really don't have anything in the vault I want to sell. Life is full of tough choices.

As cool as it is, I think a few cosmetic tweaks are in order to maximize its appeal..there are few dimensions that look like they could be altered to be more functional and or appealing..
Not a bad first try though!

Here is a nice pocket for reference

I think I actually prefer the C&S version--in particular the thumb safety arrangement. I've always thought the original thumb safety looked a bit wimpy.

A little more information......The trigger, slide stop, safety, and sights are original 1911 parts.

The radius on the rear of the slide and the frame are the same as the original, just larger. The sharp eye will also notice how Bill removed a lot of metal from the top edged of the slide rounding top in a profile that is like the original pocket model.

There is a cosmetic differance with the markings on the slide when compared to the original. The slide came from Caspian with no markings or serrations. While it would have been nice to mark is the same as the original, I'm sure the lawyers in Hartford would have had something to say.

Glad ya'll are enjoying the post.

Rob

My comment was baed more on some of the angles and radii, for example, the pocket has a frame more like an original 1911 rather than the A1 with the trigger clearance cuts. The slide serrations could be moved to more approximate the location of the pocket also.
The are MINOR nits to pick--I think it is an amazing effort overall..

Anthony,

No offense taken. The number of hours in hand filing and labor were unreal. I am sure that there are things that will be better on future models.

Just some eye candy from another site.

Thanks for the comments.

I'll bet that Josh could do a really neat IWB rig for this or even a shoulder rig.

I wish someone would reproduce the Hardy Cooper shoulder rig. That was one rig that really worked.

Wonder why Colt never thought of this?
I'm actually surprised Colt has not re-issued the model 1903 or 1908.
I've always liked the slim profile of those two models.
