These are a couple of recently-completed projects-- a 6" 10mm and a Springfield EMP. The pics are not my very best but enough to give some idea as to what was done. Conamyds on both... the EMP is a nice little gun to start with but I did some dehorning and replaced a couple factory parts, but we didn't feel it was necessary to replace everything. I shortened one mag to fit flush--otherwise they stick out. These things are smallish to start-- they are about 1/8 shorter front to back in the grip, and the breach-face to rear of slide dimension is also shortened by the same amount.... a totally viable carry gun.

The customer on the 10mm sent a Wilson frame and Caspian slide forme to start with, and a Schuemann AET barrel. I've used these before and didn't feel they were measurably better than others, but this one makes me wonder. This is an extremely accurate gun-- but I'm sure the extra inch of sight radius doesn't hurt, either.

The Pistol Dynamics interchangeable front sight system was used-- they are retained by the bushing:

I really like the Pistol Dynamics bushing and ISS sights. It is great to see some custom work on the EMP's, especially the type that makes perfect sense for carry guns. Springfield should take note on the flat mag option. I also really like the way you open magwells. That is going to make one damn fine carry gun.

What mag is that picked with the EMP? Is someone making an aftermarket mag to fit it?

That is beautiful work, Ned. I really like the Conamyds and the adjustable Champion adustable sights. All you need now is some Mad Dogs! :D

(10mm) The Pistol Dynamics parts were pretty darn nice. The gold bead and fiber optic fronts different in height by .006, meaning a POI change at 28 yards of an inch or so.... so I had to correct that. other than that, good stuff.

The customer sent Double Tap 180's and 200's (Speer Gold Dots and Hornady XTP's respectively). Both loads are pretty hot but not wild or anything. This gun really liked the 200's. He also sent some CorBons and Sivertips. Wish I'd had some federal HydraShoks as in the past I've found that to be a good 10mm load-- less recoil, great accuracy.

Thumb safety was an SVI part, first I've used and really well made.

On the EMP, Springfield has a good thing going here-- it's supposed to be out in .40 soon. When they first showed this at SHOT 3-4 years ago in .45 GAP, I was pretty gaga about it-- then they withdrew it. They may work their way back up to .45 GAP as I understand it, then again they may not. Anyway, for the 1911isti who wants something smallish and lightish but very 1911-ish, this would be a good way to go. Frame is aluminum, I hear on the .40 it will be steel.

The mag is a factory mag shortened, original floorplate and retainer discarded, a new (stainless) floorplate TIG'd in and trimmed, dehorned, blasted, Gun Koted and baked. One round less capacity, now holds 8.

The trigger was perfect on this one so nothing there was changed. I went to a Wilson grip safety since I wanted to hi-grip it front and back and the original SA grip safety was the type that is cored-out from the inside to save material and weight-- which means that if I cut it too high I'll break into a hollowed-out area.

The rear sight has yet to be changed out for something else on this one since it was shooting 6" low at 28 yards.

I've been holding off writing about the EMP, as I figure as soon as my wife gets her hands on it (she's 5'3") it isn't going back to Springfield. And would be going off to Ned.

Now that the Nedster has the bugs worked out, I can brace the checkbook for the hit.

Here is my EMP. I added a set of trimmed VZ slim grips, a Wilson thumb safety, Yost rear sight and XS standard triium front. I also beveled the bottom edge of the slide. I'm thinking of checkering the front strap at 30 lpi and finishing the slide in Melonite. Image

More cool stuff. Thanks for posting!

Care to elaborate on that SV safety? I get them off the prize tables from time to time and I usually sell them off. I have a couple of shooting buddies that just love them.

Am I right in understanding that they are billet/machined, and not cast? I hear they are 'easy to fit'. Any thoughts on that?

I would be interested in chrony results if they are available for the 6 inch Shuemann barrel vs a conventional 5 inch 1911. (For the Double tap loads especially)

Is the EMP mainspring housing the same size as the Officer's ACP?

The EMP is mine, and this is the first time I have seen is since I sent it of to Ned. I cant wait to get my hands on it.. All I asked Ned to do was make it a better carry gun, knowing Ned though I knew it would turn out special.

Most of us on LTW know what an amazing talent Ned is, but he is an even greater person. This is the second pistol he has worked on for me and I just can't say enough about how fantastic the experience has been. The things he goes out of his way to do for those of us in uniform speak volumes for his patriotism. The first gun Ned worked on was finished up by Mr. John Harrison, another gentleman of the highest order.

Thanks Ned, your the best.

How in the world did I miss this thread? Those are sweet! :!: I've been thinking about an EMP for my daughter, I only wish they made it w/a longer slide/bbl.
