I don't want to be accused of copping someone else's cool-breeze name for a blaster, but Pocket Rocket keeps coming to mind when I hold this pistola. It's an aluminum Springfield frame cut down from Gov't Model size to Officer's ACP size and topped with a 4" Caspian slide and bull barrel by Storm Lake. It uses a flat wire Glock style recoil spring on a FLGR with reverse plug. It has a steel feed ramp insert to insure no wear from hollowpoints or magazine followers. The rest of the bits and pieces are:

H-D bar stock front sight -w- white dot insert
Novak rear sight cut with one handed clearance mod
Fluted slide top -w- ball cuts and heavy lower bevel
S&A beavertail -w- EB thumb safety
Scallops on high cut front strap and VZ aluminum MSH
Beveled mag well
Hand made cocobolo carry grips
Finished in blue -w- anodized & IonBond DLC frame and MSH

Now, if you'll excuse some lint and oil spots in my pics, here's a look at the beast. Enjoy!

A little more than a pocket rocket, but a great idea, well executed. I like the stocks!

The countersunk slide stop is only slightly more difficult to remove than an unmodified slide stop. You don't really need a tool, you just have to put a little more effort into it with your fingers.

Well thats a slick little blaster! Not quite my style but the custom work is impressive to say the least. Is there anything I haven't liked from your bench? Very nice indeed.

WAY cool. Love the way the gripframe and sights turned out.
Looking forward to hearing how the alloy finish holds up.

Awesome blaster. I got to see this one (and the piece of the frame John milled away to create an Officer's ACP-length grip frame) before it went to its owner, and the work is very, very impressive. The work coming from John's bench continues to amaze.

VERY nice work....but one nit to pick... In order to REALLY be a Pocket Rocket, it has to be in 10mm. Now THAT little blaster in 10mm would INDEED be a hoot!!!

Wrong...
Brian made one .45 Pocket Rocket....

I know as I have it and carry it....

If anyone else has a .45 Pocket Rocket
completed 100% by Brian Id like to know.
There is one which Dane Burns finished up
which was mid build when Brian left us.

I have 3 of Brians guns.
One pocket rocket .45, one 10 mm Delta and a Colt Govt .45

Mr. Harrison I love my Pocket Rocket but must say WOW
thats beautiful!!!

So nice. I think CCO's are the very best for all around CCW. 8)

You mentioned 4" Caspian Slide. Is it shortened or is it a standard 41/4" Caspian commander slide?
What wood was used for the grips?
Have you had an opportunity to form an opinion about or check the abrasion resistance of that DLC over anodize- maybe just a liiittle scratch test on an unseen part?

thanks very much

Hi Darrell,
The slide is actually 4" from Caspian, not a shortened Commander slide. The grips are cocobolo. I have not scratched around on the DLC finish. This gun will be for sale shortly and I don't want to test on what will be someone else's gun. Beside's, any "testing" that I'd do with a file is pretty non-scientific. I'm content to accept IonBond's testing claims as to abrasion resistance for now and then see what real-world testing shows, like holster abrasion over six months or such.

Very nice Pocket Rocket Mr. H. You've been building quite a few of those shorties lately.

I'm loving this gun... Mr. Harrison, no matter what the modification there is always a cool subtlety about the way you build your guns and this one is a nice blend of elaborate yet understated.

Can you please explain how the bevel on the slide at the rails was accomplished? It's impressive.

Thank you. I machine the lower slide bevels on my mill with a 60 degree cutter.

Thanks for explaining the bevel. I note that the rocket has a single safety. How does one decide when to do ambi safeties?

Hello Anthony. That's a logical choice- an ambi safety for a leftie. However, I was curious more as a matter of features and aesthetic concern.

Are 1911s or other pistols like the Rocket more aesthetically pleasing/special with or without the ambi safety? Some folks list ambi safeties as one of the added features on their "loaded" pistol.
