Here are pics of two Kahrs that C&S has worked over.

The first is a P45 with a plain Novak rear sight and tritium front sight. The shop removed the grenade checkering and then did a 360 degree hand stipple job on the frame. They also smoothed up edges, polished the internals, trigger, and sides of the slides, and crowned the barrel.

Image

This is a PM9 that has been slicked up similarly to the P45. The PM9 wears XS express front and rear tritiums.

Image

For all the details, see the article in the 2008 copy of Concealed Carry Handguns that is now on the stands. Unfortunately, the article is all B&W.

Bill recently reported that he is selling Kahrs hand over fist. Great guns that are even better with a little work.

Enjoy,

Rob

Yep. I've got one of the limited runs done by Wilson Combat. There seems to be a lot of potential with these guns. I'd love to see some examples by the LTW smiths.

Those guns just ooze potential. It really is too bad that only a few shops work on them. They are the only pocket sized auto that I would consider carrying.

I looked at the Kahr (stock not worked on by anyone)
and I decided to go with a Rohrbaugh. I really like the
Rohrbaugh, I think its well put together and I do not
think you can find anything smaller thats a 9 mm.
I did not like the trigger on the Kahr, I just could not get
used to it but I imagine the guys here at LTW could change
my mind about that haha.

I have a MK9 that I have had for about 5 years, it is a great pistol. It was my BUG while working in uniform and has been carried a lot. I have probably put about 4K rounds through it. I purchased one of the first PM9's that I saw and never could get it to run right with that said the P45 really interest me but I am concerned about the reliably aspects of it. I guess I will just wait and see how they do. Any input into the P45 would be appricaiated. Of course after all this time with the MK9 and a old wore out Alessi ankle holster it might be hard to change.

Got to agree with you there, J Yagoda. I've got a few Kahrs and there's certainly nothing wrong with them at all, but my little Rohrbaugh sees a whole lot more 'slip in the pocket carry time' in the hot summer months. Very well made, tiny & accurate to boot.

Rorbaughs and Seecamps and Kahrs, oh my!

The Rorbaugh does compare favorably even with the MK9 in terms of size and capacity... I don't own a Rorbaugh but I'm told they work well..... here's one that's been left unclaimed in the shop.... gonna start a 20,000 round torture test on it with +P+ ammo tomorrow

Don't forget to order 200 recoil springs, Nedly.......

BTW, nice Conymid treatment there. Karl sent me 3 frames a while back to see what could be done, and quite honestly, the frontstrap is so thin that I was left scratching my head.

Looks like you've overcome that problem - he's gonna want to talk to you at SHOT.

Umm, wait a minute. Methinks we've hijacked the thread. Back to Kahrs....

Those Rorbaugh's are interesting guns but I cannot, and will not, get used to a European style mag release. That makes them a no go for me.

That Rouhrbaugh looks NICE Ned!
Some guy is really gonna love that treatment!

I haven't heard back from them about that yet,
I think I need to send them another Email...

Uh, Ned-
Whatcha got in that fancy holster under the Rohrbaugh and Kahr?
Looks like a Norton TP-70 or something.

Back to the Kahr subject at hand:
I've been carrying a Kahr PM9 Covert (the Covert has the short grip, but standard slide/barrel) in a pocket for three years now. Yes, I have changed the pants in that time. It's the first gun that could push the S&W Centennials out of my pocket.
I can't think of much I'd want done to it. Some of the usual slicking up inside, and maybe some grip texturing, but that's all.

He's probably already figured out how to checker the pocket clip on that Kahr....

Speaking of pocket clip, I find it quite ingenious, Ned.

This topic couldn't have come up at the better time. Last night I became acutely aware that at the new work place I don't have a secure locker to throw my fanny pack into. Since hospital scrubs don't work well from concealment standpoint, I guess I'll be looking for a pocket piece.

I wonder if anybody can comment on reliabilty with both Kahrs and Rohrbaughs. I've heard that both had some problems; I wonder if it is a random thing or systematic.

I guess I've hijacked a hjacked thread...

No firsthand knowledge of Rohrbaughs, but I have had two Kahrs. The first one didn't do so well, but as I posted above, I've been carrying the other for three years.
The first one was an MK9 (short slide and frame) and it's slide would sometimes fail to completely close on a round. This gun uses dual recoil springs, similar to the Seecamp. On mine, only one of those springs was exerting any force in the last bit of travel closed. I blamed that for the times the slide failed to completely close.

I traded it off, but still liked the general idea of the gun. I wanted to try another, but with a standard length slide/barrel- which uses a single recoil spring. I found a PM9 Covert, which had the standard slide/barrel, but still had a short grip to fit my pocket better.
It has been just fine.

50% success isn't the best, but maybe the first one could have been fixed. I honestly didn't make any efffort like returning it to Kahr. It is a rather specialzed gun, of which we are asking a lot (A P9 or K9 holds only one less round than a S&W 39), so maybe I'm cutting them some slack for that.

I also had a PM9 that I used for a few years as a Back-up/off-duty piece and have always regretted selling it. It rode many a winter shift in my uniform bomber jacket pocket and was also very welcome in the humid Virginia summers in a fanny pack or IWB under my cargo shorts. I had previously carried a Glock 27 the same ways, and it was like trying to hide a brick!! The little Kahr was very comfortable for me, was very accurate, and I only recall one failure to go into battery like the one Barry spoke of above. I am sure that now that I'm retired, I will most likely pick one of these little babies up again and most likely have it worked on by the gang at C&S (who are providing EXCELLENT service to me right now on a few issues with my BHP Pathfinder). --John

I have owned and carried both the Rohrbaugh and Kahrs. I am not a polymer fan so the weight advantage goes to the R9 over the MK or K. But the initial price difference gives you room to play with a Kahr. That extra $300-$400 goes a long way towards holsters mags and practice ammo or custom work.

I have found the steel frame Kahrs to be absolute gems and the polymers frame guns hit and miss.

I have owned and carried a Kahr K40 stainless for about 9 years now as a back up and off duty weapon. I absolutely love it. Have had 0 malfunctions in this one and would not trade it for any back up gun in the world. Had a Glock 26 prior to that and just couldn't get comfortable holding a gun with three fingers. (large hands, no room for little finger). The K 40 has seen alot of use (and dare I say abuse), in that time and has been flawless.

Any comments on the new Rohrbaugh Stealth? How would the slide finish of Diamond Black (DLC) hold up? How are the night sites on this one?

If we are going to show custom Kahrs I want the forum to see my two by Marianne Carniak of the Accurizer Gunshop in Troy, MI. The first is an E9 and the second a K40. Enjoy! Regards, Richard :D

E9 with Novak night sights, 30lpi checkering on the front strap, and hard chrome by Ford's Guns:

Kahr K40, this is my daily carry weapon. It has night sights, 30lpi checkering on the front strap, checkered wood Hogue grips, and the hard chrome was done by Virgil Tripp:

Nice pistols.

Does anyone have a picture of the left side of their customized Kahr? I have a stock PM9 and the slide stop seems to want to tear up my thumb after a decent number of rounds. Does this happen to anyone else?

I guess that's what happens to a high hand grip single action guy with a polymer pocket pistol.

Notice the slidestop, I just knocked the sharp corner off with my dremel, no more digging into my thumb.

I have a K40 which is my daily carry. It is lighter and more concealable that my 1911's and is dead nuts reliable, but I have a couple of questions for those with more knowlege than me;
1st- does anyone make a replacement barrel in .357 Sig?
2nd- I need a good holster, but not inside the waist.
Any recomendations guys?
Marsh

I'd like something similar to golfballing on the front strap of my MK9, has anyone seen anything like that on one?
