It seems there is an awful lot of talk of makers like uncle Lou, Mark Garrity, Josh Bulman, Matt DelFatti and Milt Sparks (I am sure there are others that I missed) but little or no talk of Mitch Rosen's work. I have had a couple of Rosen's rigs and have been very pleased in all cases. Am I missing something or is there a clear difference between Mitch's work and the other greats? Or is it a matter of personality which in many cases speaks for itself.

I would hazard a guess, but it might be because Rosen's work is more of a production type business with mass produced holster lines. Most of the holster craftsmen you see on this site build true custom holsters to order, one at a time with much more attention to detail. I liken it to a true custom pistol from one of our smiths versus a Kimber or other semi-production pistol.
I am not knocking Rosen leather...I still own quite a few of their products, and they are good for what they are and very reasonably priced too boot, but they are not "one-of" or made just for you. Hope this will help and I'm sure if I'm wrong one of the other members who is more knowlegeable will correct me.--John

Thanks JR. As I have not had the pleasure of owning any of the workings of an Alessi, Garrity, Bulman, DelFatti, etc so it may very well be a case of I just don't know what I don't know. I'll have to rectify that going forward. Thanks again.

I'll stick my neck out. The probable reasons why there's not much discussion about Rosen's products are the high cost (they're really proud of their products) and the lack or poor customer service.

Just to clarify a little, Rosen has three lines of holsters:

Express Line - Lower priced production line holsters with less attention to the fine details of a custom holster.

Standard Line - His original holster line with attention to the details of a fine holster including exotics.

Slim Line - These holsters are constructed with all the attention of the standard line, but these models offer minimum bulk for improved concealability (per his web site). These holsters are relatively expensive.

HTH,
John

Rosens Premier line is as good as Bulman, Alessi, etc but from what I understand he has a rather superior and condescending attitude when dealing witth folks. Pretty narsicistic or in other words, he's really hung up on himself!

I believe that Rosen is an ex-Wall Street Stock Broker. Maybe that explains it.

Well, I have no experience with him. But plenty of experience with that sort of attitude. There ain't a piece of critter hide I've seen yet that would make that attitude feel good.

As an owner of too much leather and a box full of holsters from Alessi,Garrty,Sparks,Kramer,Del Fatti, etc, I have to say that Mitch Rosen's work is far above "cookie cutter" production. His pricing beyond the "Express line" is probably a reason why many people tend to shy away from his leather. I don't know if he is personally making the leather but the rigs that I have received have exceeded the quality and workmanship of all others except Matt Del Fatti. The boning, color and fit are perfect. If I were given a choice of leather from all the makers, Mitch Rosen would be my 2nd choice hands down. His wait is reasonable and I have never had a problem with customer service. I have spoken mostly to Mitch's wife when ordering but have to spoken to Mitch personally about leather. The quality of his leather is why I own 7 holsters from Rosen and not the customer service.

Ive only talked to Mitch Rosen once, about 15+ years ago, he was very informative and seemed to be a nice guy in my conversation with him. At that time there was no "value" line, just the higher end Rosen leather, and it was very nice in my opinion.

That said, Alessi, Sparks, TR, Kenny Rowe and hopefully Del Fatti (when i get around to ordering), round out all my leather needs.

I've got a few pieces from Rosen, they are nice and of apparent quality but I've never got the feeling of "love" that I've got from Sparks or Alessi.

Who is Kenny Rowe? I've never heard of him... is there a website?

Kenny does primarily knife sheaths, I use him for many that I make, I like his belts, reasonably priced and will make them how you want.

When Mitch Rosen gets a holster right his work will match anyones. His prices are trendy but a good Rosen is a work of art! Regards, Richard :D
