Here are some quick pics of a prototype rear sight that I will have on display at the LTW booth. It is a fixed rear sight of a style that offers a number of features that knowledgeable shooters ask for - it's designed for one-handed malfunction clearance, it's suitable for installation of tritium lamps in either three dot or bar-dot configurations and it has a wider rear sight notch at .135".
The thing that makes this sight unique is it's ability to be mounted on slides already machined for Bo-Mar rear sights, either deluxe / pocket cut or standard cut. Thiis is possible due to the two piece design of a separate dovetail and body joined by two 6-32 screws and supported by the shoulders of the dovetail.
In installation, the dovetail mount is fitted to the slide, then the sight body is attached to the mount, being drawn down flat and snug against the top of the slide. The sight is designed to allow a minimum of .030" lateral movement to each side of center enabling the shooter to correct for windage. For a Government Model length slide, that is roughly 3" of correction available either way, even with the "deluxe cut" fences still intact. Elevation changes are made at the front sight like most other fixed sight systems.
Pricing hasn't been established yet, but should be soon. Hopefully this product will be in production and available later this Spring.

I also have a new barrel bushing and recoil spring plug available that are a new concept. The plug and bushing flange are machined so the plug will not rotate, keeping the H-D logo aligned at all times. These are available now and are sized for gunsmith fit, undersized on the ID and oversized on the OD. Available in both carbon and stainless in both Commander and Government Model configuration.

That is a beefy take no sh$t sight. I think that will take the place of Adj. sights on QCB guns all over.

Well, John..... all I can say is that I have been asked many, many times if there was a fixed-sight option to fill a BoMar cut. I have always answered no, unless a guy wanted to spend more than it would probably take to replace the slide and barrel on it in making something up from scratch and doing some recutting of the sight cuts in the slide. You have definitely filled a need here.

That rear sight will be perfect on the 1911 I just purchased. Bravo on the Bomar cut.

Will that be adaptable for the LPA cut? I need one of those for my Springfield TRP Operator.

John,
That sight looks wonderful. I am curious. What advantage does your plug and bushing flange offer?

Thanks,
Lester

This rear sight definitely fits a need. I have two pistols with buried Bomars, and if I ever bust a sight I now have a great replacement option.

Very nice John.

It is going to be fun to watch you immerse yourself in your avocation. 8) Keep the designs coming.

Way cool John. I had wondered about how one would tackle the problem of the deluxe cut hindering windage adjustment. Hey, with your logo on the front, you'll probably have an extended market from the bikers!

Nicely done, John. Well thought out and needed.

LOVE the Harley Davidson lettering on the plug!

Great idea. My only quibble would be I'd like to see the lead-in ramp a bit lower, maybe flush with the slide. But, that could be handled during installation. Look forward to seeing it at the show.

Like Mr. Christiansen, I can't count the times I've heard or read about someone asking for a fixed replacement for a Bomar cut. There is definitely a need out there. And your bushing/plug set is way cool!

Guys, thanks for all the kind comments about the sight and bushing and plug set. I still have some endurance testing to do with the sight to have a chance to tweak as needed before starting production.

Hi Les,

Thanks for your kind comments. The bushing and plug do the same job as any other high quality bushing and plug on the market. The cheif difference is that the construction of the two parts allow them to lock together, making the plug unable to rotate in it's bore. This allows a design or logo to be applied, such as "HD" for Harrison Design (or Heavy Duty or Harley Davidson  ) and it stay upright after assembly, rather than rotating upside down during use and becoming "DH" for ........ well, never mind that one!

Mr. Harrison,

Very nice designs, indeed. A pery purposeful appearance. I recently inherited a Combat Elite that has a Bomar target buried in the slide. That setup is useless for me. I had resigned myself to having a smith fit a new Caspian slide to the frame and installing a Y-B (or some other fixed, heavy duty) rear sight. Your offering will certainly save me some inconvenience and expense. Please advise us when these items are actually available.

I for one am in need of such a setup. Will that sight fit the Kimber Bomar-like adjustable sight cut?

Greyson

As it stands right now, I expect to have sights available in 5 or 6 weeks. I'll post as soon as I have them in hand. Thanks to everyone for your interest and patience!

I foolishly sold a lightweigh Commander someone had a buried a Bomar on. Useless on a carry gun so I sold it. I am kicking myself for doing so now that there is an intelligent option.
Good work!

Will this be offerred for the Kimber cut? I have been told it is different somewhat from the Bomar style. If so, that would also tap a huge market with all the "Match" pistols kimber sells to guys who would rather carry them.

The Kimber cut is different than the Bo-Mar BMCS cut, so no it won't fit. At this point I can't say what's next, but it's possible. Are you aware that Richard Heinie makes a nice fixed replacement (#356) for the Kimber adjustable?

John, I just saw this...it is awesome!!!!! Of course this comes just as I am finished replacing the last upper on my carry guns, so that I can move to fixed sights. I had been waiting for someone to do this for years and had finally given up.

Excellent execution though...I may buy a couple when they are in production to salvage some uppers now sitting in a drawer....

Interesting sight John. I would like to buy a rear/front set with a bar/dot night sight config. Looks like a very sturdy sight, the bushing/plug is nice too (Between these custom Colt 1911's/Harley's - I could use a raise)

Very well thought out, all the way down to having enough material in the blades to install night sight vials. You could be able to offer different bases for other dove tails to expand your market rather easily.

I would be very interested in one of the Bomar sight replacment units once you get them into production. Would you consider the manufacture of some with a single or double trijicon inserts? How much smithing skill will be needed for the install?
I am a great fan of your work, this site is a wonderful place for us mere mortals to get a chance to admire the work of such great gunsmiths.
Let me know please- and thanks!

As of a couple of weeks ago, John told me that the sights are ready, he's got a huge batch of them.

That's right. As of now, I have sights ready to sell. They will run $85.00 + $4.60 for Priority Mail 2-3 day delivery.

Mr. Harrison,

Would you have a fixed sight available for my Springfield Loaded Target. It has the Springfield Adjustable sight that your new sight will not fit due to the position of the dovetail. I would like to carry this gun some and the adjustable sight, well...does not do well in carry situations, as I am sure you well know. Here is a picture of my gun. I would really like to see a picture of your replacement sight for this gun, if possible and how I could get one.

Thanks,

Mike Seale AKA tex45acp

Hi Mike,

The H-D Hard Use sight to fit the Springfield LPA cut will go into production next week, barring complications. I hope to have units ready to ship in 6 to 8 weeks, again, barring complications. I will have both this sight and the HD-001 for a BoMar BMCS cut available in plain black, with two tritium dots and with a tritium bar.

If you'll send an email to: john@HarrisonCustom.com, I'll add you to the file I'm keeping of folks who've expressed interest and will let you know as soon as they're ready to ship.

Thanks!! :D
