Out of Virgil Tripp's shop in Texas comes this full house custom that took over a year in the making. A super rare piece no longer offered to the general public. Built off an STI slide over a Les Baer frame, Tripp's quality speaks for itself with fit and finish. I can only imagine the accuracy since I haven't had a chance to pull the trigger...yet

Specs:
Machine slide for sight cuts
Flat top and serrate
Cut bottom of slide to 45 degrees
Fit Jarvis .451 Match barrel to slide and frame
Serrate front of frame
Build recoil system (Briley-type)
Bobtail frame
Build main spring housing and serrate
Serrate back of slide
Fit slide to frame
Fit hammer sear and disconnector
Re-cut for fiber-optic front sight and Bomar rear sight
Cut and fit grip panels for bobtail frame
Cut and fit reverse plug for recoil system
Test fire
Sandblast
Tripp Cobra Hard chrome entire gun
Tripp "Cobra" Logo on slide

Man do I love that look!
But have to ask...why the bulky adjustable rear sights when you've gone to such an extreme to make this a perfect CCW weapon?

Yea, I have to agree with Husker, what's up with those sights, fibre optic too? Nice piece otherwise.

The BoMar is the most underrated sight going. I have one on my game gun and it is a lot tougher than most think. At times I have smacked the heck out of it on a port, a door frame and any number of props and it is still going strong. I wouldn't hesitate to put a properly de-horned one on a carry gun as I think night sights are, for the most part, overrated. YMMV.

That Bo-Mar looks about as buried as it can get, so not much bulk, and what's better than a FO front? Functional classic.

Great look on the Bobtail. Virgil is a great smith and very nice soft spoken man to work with. I have some examples of his Cobra Chrome...beautiful hard chrome coming from his shop. He really buried that Bo-Mar deep - wow. Whose grips are those, I got a set from Kim Ahrends that are almost identical in color, maybe a tad darker that are going on a Colt Govt. thats at the smith as I write this.

Great job Virgil!

Let us know how this one shoots!

very nice
as far as adjustables, if they were as fragile as people made them out to be, they wouldn't be on the top competitors guns, the ones that shot 40-50k rounds a year.
Competition guns get the crap beat out of them, pounding rounds downrange, banging into ports, and props.

the Bomar's are low profile and built like a brick sh$t house, Virgil did an incredible job melting it into the slide and the front fiber optic tube tracks very well.

and that is a nice install.Too bad Mr. Tripp quit doing custom work. Seems like there's more than enough work to go around these days...at least for the guys that are GOOD at it!

I'm curious about the choice of a Jarvis barrel.I know they have a good rep and all but I rarely see any custom pistols that feature one of Bill's barrels. I'd really like to know how that hot looking piece shoots. :D

Toro...you waited only a little over a year? That's nothin'! ...was worth the wait, yes?

He didn't quit doing custom work as much as he took a sabbatical. My Caspian 9MM was one of the last guns to go through his shop before he stopped taking work. At the time, between custom work and getting his new line of magazines up and running there weren't enough hours in the day.

Knowing Virgil he wasn't willing to compromise one for the other. So gunsmithing was sort of put on the shelf. I say sort of because he was stilling doing some work for repeat customers and law enforcement. His new website says that he is going to start making guns again. If I were in the market for another custom 1911 his name would be on the short list of smiths that I would consider using.

This is a great looking gun. Virgil is one of my favorite builders. He built a gun for me in 2006 and it NEVER fails to run.
